Join our dedicated team as a NICU Nurse, where you will provide critical care to premature and sick newborns in a fast-paced, high-stakes environment. As a vital member of our healthcare team, you will utilize the nursing process to deliver direct patient care, ensuring the highest standards of treatment and safety for our most vulnerable patients.
*Key Responsibilities:*
- Deliver comprehensive critical care to neonates, utilizing advanced nursing practices and protocols.
- Prescribe, delegate, and coordinate all aspects of care for assigned patients, ensuring secure and effective treatment.
- Diagnose and address health issues through case finding, health teaching, counseling, and restorative care.
- Supervise and mentor nursing staff, including LPNs, RNPs, and nursing attendants, to ensure optimal patient care.
- Assess and respond to the immediate and ongoing care needs of patients and their families.
- Provide respiratory support, ensuring proper functioning of ventilator equipment and monitoring oxygen saturation levels.
- Administer feeding via bottle, naso-gastric tubes, or IV, and manage IV pumps and feeding rates.
- Conduct assessments for abdominal girth and stool output, and perform necessary blood draws and IV starts.
- Collaborate with physicians and nursing leadership to develop and implement comprehensive care plans.
- Document and communicate patient responses to treatment, ensuring timely reassessment and adjustments to care plans.
- Coordinate multidisciplinary care efforts, establishing priorities and facilitating effective communication among team members.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and contribute to the development of nursing standards.
*Other Responsibilities:*
- Assume charge responsibilities as delegated by the Nurse/Manager.
- Maintain a safe and therapeutic environment for patients, families, and staff.
- Engage in professional development through meetings, committees, and educational programs.
- Participate in research and pilot projects supported by the Nursing Department.
*Required Skills & Experience:*
- Minimum of 1 year of experience in an emergency or critical care setting.
- Minimum of 1 year of experience in a pediatric setting.
*Required Education:*
- Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN) is required.
*Preferred Education:*
- Master's Degree in Nursing is preferred.
*Required Certifications & Licensure:*
- Current New York State RN license.
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) certification.
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) certification.
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification.
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) certification.
