Must work closely with and support The Children's Guild school psychiatrists. The school nurse monitors student health and safety during behavior crisis requiring restraints. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesMaintain student health files including physicals, vaccination and immunization records, annual emergency form, and dental records.Administers medication to students and ensures the school has proper documentation to administer medication in school with permission from the parent and physician.Evaluates and assesses children and adolescents in the midst and after behavioral crises requiring restraints and/or therapeutic interventions.Responds to medical concerns within the school building.Ability to synthesize data from multiple sources and develop a comprehensive nursing care plan for children, adolescents and their families.Write notes and reports in a timely manner including health suite visits.Provides professional development to staff in areas of expertise or on specific health plans for students.Attends individualized education program meetings as needed for students with health concerns.Prepare and participate in medical record audits conducted by regulatory bodies.Inventory and maintenance of health supplies for the school program.Assumes other duties as assigned.Supervisory ResponsibilitiesThis position does not have any supervisory responsibilities.QualificationsEducation and/or ExperienceGraduate of an accredited school of nursing with Diploma, Associate Degree, or a Bachelor of Science in Nursing.A minimum of three years post training experience in the provision of nursing services in a school setting.A current license as a registered nurse to practice nursing in the state of Maryland without restriction by the Maryland Board of Nursing.Certificates, Licenses, RegistrationsA current license as a registered nurse to practice nursing in the state of Maryland without restriction by the Maryland Board of Nursing.Certified or eligible for certification in CPR/First Aid.
