Under the general supervision of the Director of Pediatric Echocardiology, the incumbent will be responsible for performing complete and comprehensive pediatric echocardiographic exams independently in an ambulatory care setting in various offices in Boston, Worcester, Danvers, Braintree, Foxboro, Cape Cod, Holyoke and other satellites. Sonographer will understand the reasons for the patient's exam and prepare preliminary reports with accurate measures and appropriate statements. Incumbent will comply with patient privacy and safety guidelines and adheres to departmental and hospital policies and procedures.
This position is for 16 hours per week. Schedule will be a 2 day combination of either Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday. Responsibilities:
Relevant activities include, but are not limited to the following:
Perform complete echocardiographic examination independently Perform complete fetal echocardiograms independently Acquire echocardiographic examination in digital format Understand reasons for individual patient exams, review patient history and review prior report/images Perform expected volume of studies on a consistent basis Perform echocardiograms in all settings: inpatient, outpatient and other portable sites Participate in QI initiatives and in measures to support laboratory accreditation Perform saline bubble studies Develop proficiency in 3D imaging and other imaging techniques as they become available in the laboratory Assist with training junior personnel Participate in research protocols as needed Provide resource coverage in inpatient or outpatient setting Train junior personnel and provide back-up support to all personnel Be receptive to queries from administrative support staff for optimal running of Clinic and Lab Help guide administrative support staff when technical/scheduling questions arise Set example for junior personnel regarding work ethic, workflow, technical expertise SKILLS & COMPETENCIES REQUIRED: Comply with patient privacy and safety guidelines (e.g. 2 patient identifiers) Practice Infection Control standards Learn to use a variety of ultrasound equipment - GE, Philips, etc Prepare a preliminary report with accurate measurements and appropriate statements Perform expected volume of studies by end of first year Understand overall functioning of the laboratory Develop good time management and organizational skills Ask questions as necessary regarding protocols, diagnoses, image optimization and other areas Qualifications EXPERIENCE At least 5 years experience in pediatric echocardiography
