Duties SummaryThe Physician/Geriatric Medicine is accountable to the Chief of Geriatrics & Extended Care Service or designee in the management of responsibilities in the provision of care to patients/residents in the Community Living Center Unit within the ACOS/Geriatrics & Extended Care Service. The Physician will provide continuing care management of assigned patients and maintains an active knowledge of the patient care processes of the Department of Veterans Affairs, the medical center and its clinics.Responsibilities The overall responsibilities typically includes, but are not limited to: Serves as collaborating physician for Nurse Practitioner in the CLC.Assists in developing procedures for the effective transfer of CLC residents to acute care and other organizations, as necessary.Assists in developing procedures for the treatment of CLC residents.Participates in the CLC resident Interdisciplinary Care Team meetings and resident's council, as needed. Participates in establishing policies, procedures, and guidelines designed to assure the provision of adequate, comprehensive, timely services to CLC residents. Participates as resource for in-service training programs, and Internal Medicine, Geriatrics resident's supervision as assigned by Service Chief. Monitors and evaluates the quality of medical services as an integral part of the overall quality assessment and improvement program and assuring compliance with the standards of care in the Geriatrics Population.Participates in the on-call medical coverage program for Long Term Care as assigned.Complies with agency regulations, medical staff bylaws, VA Caribbean Healthcare System policies, and other appropriate regulations as they apply.Work Schedule: Monday to Friday, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Required to be on Call.
