Description of Job
This position exists to respond to, troubleshoot, and repair Heating Ventilating Air Conditioning / Refrigeration issues. This includes but is not limited to heating, ventilating and air conditioning equipment, troubleshooting pneumatic, electric, and direct digital control systems, operation of boilers, chillers and other mechanical equipment.
Duties include:
Perform HVAC maintenance, troubleshooting, repairs and adjustments to a variety of different types of HVAC systems.
Maintain, inspect, install, and repair large and small refrigeration equipment such as centrifugal, screw, scroll, and reciprocating machines, building cooling towers, heating and cooling pumps, evaporative cooling systems, building air handling units and components, air devices, heat transfer equipment, low pressure hot water boilers, building air compressors and refrigerated air dryers.
Complete required paperwork, including recording time and materials on work orders, labor on timesheets, order parts as needed, and complete work orders with description of actions taken to correct issue.
Maintain variable air volume fume hoods systems; repair, replace and install fume hood air valves and control devices. Measures face air velocity and maintain proper pressurization within the laboratories.
Test/Inspect HVAC related fire safety devices such as fire and fire/smoke dampers and actuators. Repair or replace faulty devices for proper operation.
Perform small additions or modifications to HVAC piping or ductwork to support new ventilation requirements.
Serves as a member of the asbestos abatement team, if selected, and performs other duties as assigned.
Work with Building Automation and Controls (BAC) systems in order to troubleshoot, turn off and on equipment, and determine correct operational sequences of equipment.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience Only:
Three (3) years of experience working with Heating Ventilating Air Conditioning / Refrigeration issues ( heating, ventilating and air conditioning equipment, troubleshooting pneumatic, electric, and direct digital control systems, operation of boilers, chillers and other mechanical equipment)
OR
Education and Experience:
A combination of related education, formalized apprenticeship program, and/or relevant experience in an occupation related to the work assigned equal to three (3) years
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
More than 5 years of experience working on commercial HVAC equipment
Experience working with central chiller plants
Experience working on a campus environment or large organizations (State, City, K-12, large corporations, etc)
Prior, relevant state experience
