Federal Signal has an immediate opening for a Precision Inspector at our University Park, IL facility. This position will perform duties to inspect a wide variety of vendor supplied components, company machine parts, and finished goods, following standard methods and procedures.Essential Job Duties and ResponsibilitiesPrepares records, reports, and forms. Entering inspection results into computer.Communicates with Production and Quality personnel to prioritize inspection of incoming materials in accordance with production demands.Works with other Precision Inspectors to assure that work is done; revising schedules when problems arise due to attendance, availability of equipment, material shortages, and similar changing conditions.Inspects products, parts, and materials; ensures compliance with company standards.Works from specifications, drawings, and procedures.Plans and lays out work, using the AQL table to determine random sampling size for lot quantity. Plans sequence of inspection operations on a wide variety of somewhat intricate castings, machined section, and formed and fabricated components.Lays out work on surface plates, checks fabricated parts for hole locations, angles, and squareness where tolerances are very close and exacting.Stamps or otherwise indicate acceptable items.Tags nonconforming items, detailing reasons for rejects, and places in designated location for disposition. Follows through after MRB to assure that disposition is carried out with inspection area.After inspection is complete, verifies all information is in correct file location for easy retrieval at a later date.Requires frequent lifting and staging of light and average weight materials; moving skids to inspection bays with pallet jack, some lifting may be performed in awkward positions.Will develop knowledge of blueprints, product specifications and test procedures.Verify validity of Certification of Conformance and parts meet required specifications.Ability to develop familiarity with geometric dimensioning and tolerancing, surface relationships, recesses, contours, and similar characteristics.Performs inspection of received materials, including finished goods, as required by engineering drawings or as requested and necessary for production.Calls attention to excessive or recurring defects and notifies supervisor of unusual equipment or operating problems.Notifies supervisor when new or different equipment or skills are required for the inspection of materials.Ability to learn and use hand tools, precision mechanical and electronic measuring instruments. Including but not limited to calipers, micrometers, scales, and other measuring instruments applicable to the job.
