The Principal Storage Engineer will be responsible for designing, implementing, managing, and
optimizing storage infrastructure to ensure data integrity, availability, and performance for the BostonChildren's Enterprise. This role demands a deep understanding of storage systems, data management,and backup solutions, along with strong problem-solving skills and the ability to lead projects and workalongside other teams such as Network, Systems, Virtualization, and Database teams.
In addition to the technical responsibilities, the Principal Storage Engineer will play a crucial role inshaping the long-term storage strategy for the enterprise. This individual will advise leadership on storagetrends, emerging technologies, and best practices to ensure our infrastructure evolves in alignment with the organization's goals and future needs. By analyzing current and future storage requirements, they will develop and recommend strategies to optimize performance, scalability, and cost-efficiency, thus ensuring that our storage solutions remain robust and adaptable to the changing landscape of data management.
The Principal Storage Engineer will be responsible for: Designing, developing, maintaining, researching, and supporting storage infrastructure that supports the Boston Children's enterprise. Guiding configuration, debugging, and supporting storage infrastructure and ensuring all quality and change control standards are met. Proactively addressing gaps with existing support processes, documentation, etc., and prioritizing accordingly. Optimizing existing storage architecture for performance, scalability, and reliability. Monitoring storage performance and capacity, making recommendations for improvements and upgrades. Performing routine maintenance and updates to storage systems to ensure optimal performance. Troubleshooting and resolving complex storage-related issues, providing timely and effective solutions, assisting with root cause investigations, and providing recommendations for preventative measures. Conducting regular health checks and performance tuning of storage environments. Collaborating with cross-functional teams, including Network, Systems, Virtualization, and Application teams, to support business objectives. Developing and maintaining detailed documentation of storage infrastructure, processes, and procedures. Ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements related to data storage and protection.
To qualify, you must have: Bachelor's degree is required Masters is preferred Certification in EMC Proven Professional, NetApp Certified Data Administrator, or equivalent is preferred. Minimum of 8 years of experience in storage engineering or a related role is required Deep expert knowledge of storage technologies, including RAID, Fiber Channel, iSCSI, NFS, and SMB. Proficiency in configuring and managing storage arrays from major vendors (e.g., EMC, NetApp, HPE, Dell) as well as storage management software and tools. Familiarity with cloud storage solutions and hybrid storage environments. Proficiency in scripting languages (e.g., Python, PowerShell, Bash) for automating storage tasks Understanding of hybrid storage environments and data migration strategies. Knowledge of disaster recovery planning and implementation Understanding of data deduplication, compression, and encryption techniques This position is Hybrid role with 2 days onsite a week.
