Under supervision to perform a variety of unskilled to semi-skilled tasks in the maintenance, repair, and upkeep of City facilities from parks and recreational areas to buildings, facilities, janitorial assignments, streets, and sewers; operate appropriate equipment; and perform other job-related work as required.
CURRENT VACANCIES SHIFTS START AT 6:30 AM. CANDIDATES MUST BE AVAILABLE FOR WEEKEND SHIFTS, AND SHIFTS MAY VARY BASED ON THE NEEDS OF THE DEPARTMENT.
Performs a variety of unskilled manual to semi-skilled tasks involving the maintenance, repair, cleaning and upkeep of City parks, golf course, recreational and sports areas, buildings, facilities and assist with same for streets and sewer maintenance; assists in basic park and building maintenance tasks such as weed abatement, janitorial maintenance and duties, raking leaves, tree and shrub pruning, etc.; uses basic and power driven tools and maintenance equipment including mowers, edgers, weedwackers, pruners, small riding equipment, and light trucks; cleans same tools and equipment; performs manual labor such as loading and unloading materials into trucks, and moving and arranging furniture; may open/close and clean rest room facilities and other buildings; may maintain basic records of work performed and materials used; may assist in controlling traffic in the vicinity of work assignments; may perform some skilled maintenance and repair tasks in a training and learning capacity; reports any breakage and the need for complicated adjustments or repairs; may be required to work weekends, evenings, and/or holidays.
Training and Experience: Any combination of training and experience which would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
Work Background: Prior experience performing grounds and landscaping maintenance tasks, heavy manual labor, and the operation of power-driven and motorized equipment used in general maintenance and repair is desirable.
Knowledge of:
General tools and equipment used in maintenance, repair and landscape work. Operation and maintenance of power driven hand tools and light vehicles including mowers, edgers, and other landscape maintenance equipment. Safe work practices. Ability to: Learn and perform general public works maintenance assignments. Perform a variety of heavy, physical labor involving strength, dexterity and coordination. Safely and efficiently operate basic and power driven tools and motorized equipment. Perform assigned tasks independently and accurately. Perform routine equipment maintenance and repair. Maintain basic records of work performed and materials used. Read, write and follow instructions at the level required for successful job performance.
