POSITION SUMMARY: The Quantitative Analyst works on a team of professionals with risk modeling expertise in environmental insurance claims focusing on scrubbing and synthesizing data, developing models to simulate complex claim outcomes, performing quality assurance of models, and presenting results to management for use in strategy and decision making. As a member of the team, this role will work with stakeholders in the Claims and Legal departments to understand needs, requirements, and expectations. This is a highly independent position which will require strong analytical, problem solving, communication and documentation skills.
DUTIES: Build and calibrate models that forecast impact of environmental claims (hazardous waste and asbestos) to various client companies through analysis of financial and legal issues.Participate in annual reserving initiatives from data collection to model design and execution.Provide quantitative support to other departments to address specific business questions, solutions, or plans.Generate ad hoc reporting for management and clients.PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS: Find creative solutions to problems when limited information is available.Capable of managing an assigned project with a wide degree of independence.Organizational and prioritizing skills.Ability to produce work in a short amount of time, if necessary.Demonstrated ability to quickly learn how to adopt and utilize new systems and procedures.EDUCATION: Bachelor of Science in a quantitative field (Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, Finance, Accounting).EXPERIENCE: 5-8 years' experience in data analysis (statistical or financial), preferably in the insurance industry.Understanding of mathematical modeling and forecasting methods and how to apply them to complex scenarios incorporating multiple variables and constraints.Ability to solve qualitative problems quantitatively and present or explain solutions to an audience with a limited math or computing background.Advanced user of Excel with experience writing lengthy formulas, manipulating large sets of data and summarizing results.Must have experience working with data sets, enjoy spreadsheets, and have an affinity for systems.
