Provides imaging services at a Level I Trauma hospital institution under general direction of the Operations and Technical Managers. This individual performs a variety of patient contact duties related to the operation of radiologic equipment to make clinical diagnostic X-ray images as directed by a physician. Explains safety protocols and routine diagnostic procedures to patients. The individual must have the capability of performing routine diagnostic procedures efficiently method, accuracy utilizing various radiographic equipment such as fluoroscopic, portable, and diagnostic equipment as related to the area.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Upholds and follows the Standards of Behavior Policy Scheduled rotations in all areas of radiography including Outpatient, Inpatient, OR and Fluoroscopy procedures. Conduct equipment system warm-up and quality assurance procedures per established guidelines to ensure a safe and effective equipment operation Follow Radiology Patient Identification Policy Correctly interpret exam requests making sure history conforms to exam requested Positions and follows Emergency, Inpatient and Outpatient exam protocols for patients of all ages, level of acuity and body habitus Instructs patients regarding the procedures while remaining cognizant of patient's condition Utilizes immobilization and supportive devices to obtain the desired radiographic positions and to ensure patient safety Selects radiographic exposure factors for procedures using the principle of ALARA Maintains a high level of image quality when archiving exams to PACS to ensure all images are of the correct patient, correct exam, correct labeling, positioning and orientation Acquires and maintains knowledge of Radiation Safety, and Hospital and Departmental Policies Maintains knowledge of the location of emergency equipment, code carts and the procedure necessary to alert the Code Team and Rapid Response Team Responsible for mentoring imaging students and new employees following the MGH mission statement SKILLS/ ABILITIES/ COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:
• Knowledge of anatomy, cross-sectional anatomy, physiology, medical terminology.
• Knowledge of the principles of radiation physic
• Knowledge of radiographic positioning and radiographic equipment
• Acquires and maintains knowledge of related topics to include, but not limited to radiation safety and hospital and departmental policie
• Effective interpersonal and communications skills both verbal and written.
• Maintains inventory of exam room, maintains a clean and safe working environment.
• Physical ability to perform all job function
• Computer skills for effective patient care and communication
• Ability to provide compassionate care to patients and family
• Ability to recognize emergency situations and respond appropriately, location of emergency code procedures and equipment
• Must be able to read and write English
• Must possess the ability to assess patient specific data relative to age-specific needs and provide appropriate care

Qualifications
Successful completion of an accredited school of Radiologic Technology
ARRT Certification, and Massachusetts DPH Radiologic Technologist License required
BLS required
Experience is preferred, new grads are considered
