Description PRN Registered Nurse (RN) - Openings in Emergency Department (ED), Obstetrics (OB), and Medical-Surgical (MedSurg)

Position Overview: We are seeking a skilled and dynamic PRN Registered Nurse (RN) to join our healthcare team in a versatile role that spans across the Emergency Department (ED), Obstetrics (OB), and Medical-Surgical (MedSurg) units. The PRN RN will provide high-quality patient care, assessment, and treatment in these diverse clinical areas as per the needs of the hospital. Key Responsibilities:
Emergency Department (ED): Assess and prioritize patients presenting to the ED based on acuity and severity of conditions. Administer immediate medical care and interventions in emergency situations. Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to stabilize patients and coordinate their care plans. Document patient information, treatment provided, and response to interventions accurately and in a timely manner. Ensure adherence to established protocols, guidelines, and best practices in emergency care. Obstetrics (OB): Provide comprehensive antepartum, intrapartum, and postpartum care to obstetric patients. Monitor fetal and maternal well-being during labor and delivery. Administer medications, assist with procedures, and support patients through childbirth. Educate and provide emotional support to expectant mothers and their families. Collaborate with OB-GYNs, midwives, and other healthcare professionals to ensure safe and positive birthing experiences. Medical-Surgical (MedSurg): Perform thorough assessments of patients admitted to the MedSurg unit and develop care plans. Administer medications, manage wound care, and provide postoperative care as needed. Monitor patients' conditions, vital signs, and responses to treatments. Collaborate with the healthcare team to manage and coordinate patient care throughout their hospital stay. Educate patients and their families about post-discharge care and recovery. Please note that these are not exhaustive responsibilities, other responsibilities/duties apply based on department. Qualifications and Requirements:

Active and unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in TN.

Experience in clinical nursing experience in emergency, obstetrics, and medical-surgical settings.

BLS and ACLS certification.

Strong clinical assessment, critical thinking, and decision-making skills.

Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities to work effectively with diverse patients, families, and healthcare teams.

Ability to adapt to rapidly changing environments and make quick, informed decisions.

Willingness to work PRN shifts, including weekends and holidays, based on unit needs.

Proficiency in electronic health records (EHR) and documentation practices.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS Education

Graduate of an accredited program in nursing.

Bachelor of Science in nursing (BSN) or Associate of Science in Nursing (ADN) degree required.

Work Experience

A minimum of two years nurse experience in an acute healthcare setting

License/Certification

Current Registered Nurse license to practice in Tennessee.

Current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS)

Current certification in Advanced Life Support (ACLS) - Full-Time staff only

Current certification in Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) - Full-Time staff only

Current certification in CPI - Full-Time staff only

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

PATIENT CARE: Initiates admission assessment within two hours of arrival to the unit, including pain assessment.

Completes admission assessment of the patient/family according to procedure within 24 hours.

Monitors patient condition throughout shift according to unit care standards, including the reassessment of pain.

Demonstrates ability to interpret changes in patient condition and abnormal lab values as evidenced by shift communication and documentation in the medical record.

Initiates a written plan of care within 24 hours of admission.

Incorporates in the nursing plan of care: nursing interventions specific to the patient's age and identified needs; measurable patient outcomes, discharge planning.

Reviews and appropriately updates the nursing plan of care during assigned shift.

Works with the patient or family in the development of the plan of care.

Implements plan of care within established time frame.

Accurately orders appropriate tests on computer terminal.

Requests consultation, based on assessment data, to assist in problem solving or facilitation of care as evidenced by random observation and documentation in the medical record.

Administers medications, including I.V. fluids, according to policy and procedure.

Administers and accounts for all controlled substances according to established policy and procedure.

Accurately reviews physician's orders and ensures implementation according to schedule.

Documents nursing interventions and patient response to care at appropriate intervals during the shift.

Provides basic teaching as outlined in the plan of care and documents teaching and outcomes in the medical record.

Evaluates patient outcomes and modifies nursing interventions to meet changing patient needs, including the reassessment of pain.

Reports changes in the patient's condition and/or adverse patient response to physician and other health care professionals.

Provides the best possible nursing care by planning, organizing, and directing the nursing functions of patients on the unit.

Initiates and implements patient care plan.

Makes nursing assignments appropriate to the skill level of employees.

Maintains acceptable standards of patient care.

Identifies problems and guides personnel to their solution.

Accurately and promptly implements physicians' orders.

Administers medications and intravenous solutions skillfully and correctly.

Maintains the standards of accurate and complete recording and reporting.

Arranges to have needed supplies and equipment on hand.

Participates in planning changes and improvements.

OTHER DUTIES

Keeps Charge Nurse or Nursing Director informed of patients, needs, and problems on the nursing unit.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Prolonged periods of standing and walking

Must be able to lift, push, and pull up to 40 pounds during a scheduled work shift.

Must be able to see with corrective eye wear

Must be able to hear clearly with assistance

May be exposed to infectious and contagious diseases

Able to handle emergency and/or crisis situations

May be required to wear protective equipment as necessary

Transferring, repositioning patients.
