DescriptionFollows Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required. Provides age and culturally appropriate care. Serves as primary coordinator of all disciplines for well-coordinated patient care. Coordinates the surgery/procedure and patient care. Coordinates the surgical/procedure room with respect to sterility, cleanliness, availability of functioning equipment and instruments and endoscopic equipment and supplies. Orients and mentors new staff members. Carries out physician orders. Assists physicians during examinations and procedures. Instructs and educates patients and families. Provides nursing care to the patient undergoing surgical and other invasive procedures. Monitors, records and communicates patient condition as appropriate utilizing computerized documentation systems. Participates in the care of patients receiving conscious sedation. Assesses, plans and evaluates the nursing care needs of the patient before, during and after the procedure. Age specific admission and ongoing assessments are completed, documented and used to develop a plan of care.RequirementsPrevious work experience (1+ years) as a clinical nurse is preferred; at least one year previous work experience as a registered nurse.Graduate from an accredited RN school of nursing. Current California Registered Nurse License. At least one year of previous work experience as a registered nurse / acute care experience as a circulating nurse in the operating room and GI Endoscopy.Current BLS and ACLS provider cards. Bilingual desired. Proficiency circulating in various surgical and GI Endoscopy procedures. Expected to adhere to all hospital policies and to act as a role model in adherence to hospital and perioperative services policies and standards.Strong organizational and interpersonal skills. Ability to determine appropriate course of action in more complex situations. Ability to manage multiple and simultaneous responsibilities and to prioritize scheduling of work. Ability to work independently, exercise creativity, be attentive to detail, and maintain a positive attitude. The OR/GI Endoscopy Clinical Nurse (RN) is responsible for providing and supervising direct and indirect total nursing care responsibilities utilizing the nursing process (assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating). Plans and provides advanced and/or specialized nursing care for patients. Provides nursing services to patients and families in accordance with the scope of the RN as defined by the California Board of Nursing. Adheres to all rules and regulations of all applicable local, state and federal agencies and accrediting bodies.
