On-site Pay rate: ranges between ranges between $61,000 to $132,000 / depends on education and experience

St. Thomas School is seeking an experienced school counselor to join our Center for Responsive Learning (CRL) team. The School Counselor plays a pivotal role in supporting students' well-being and sense of belonging, providing a comprehensive counseling program to students in grades 3 through 8. The counselor works closely with the Division Directors, the CRL team and teachers to create and deliver programming that develops social and emotional skills and responds to student needs and concerns. The counselor meets with individual and small groups of students and parents, to support students' social, emotional, and mental health, and works collaboratively with parents to connect students with outside support when needed.

Specific Responsibilities:Co-teaches, with classroom teachers and advisors, to directly build SEL skills and dispositions with students Supports the work of all teachers in implementing advisory and other social emotional learning Counsels individuals and small groups of students toward social and emotional growth Participates in the Student Intervention Team process, in conjunction with the Director of the CRL, learning specialists, counselors, and other team members Observes students in classrooms, works with teachers to develop strategies that may help a student achieve greater success, and helps to develop behavior support plans when necessary Participates in and enhances school community by establishing a campus presence and promoting activities that improve the quality of student life and health Working with the Center for Responsive Learning, refers students with challenges and their families to relevant programs, specialists, and outside agencies Facilitates learning in the school's adult community by conducting in-service training and workshops, classes, and groups, in partnership with Division Directors and other school counselor(s) Interfaces regularly with the Center for Responsive Learning staff in order to support students facing academic challenges Engages in professional development Establishes and cultivates community relations by maintaining open and candid dialogue with all of the school's constituencies Is familiar with and complies with all policies and regulations as put forth in the school's documents Since safety and security are everyone's responsibility, takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, faculty, staff, equipment, materials and facilities Performs other duties as assigned Qualifications Required Education & Experience:Master's degree in Counseling, Social Work or Psychology or related areas 3+ years' experience teaching and/or counseling middle-school aged children Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:Strong knowledge of current trends, research, and best practices in child development and social/emotional learning. Ability to identify at-risk children and respond appropriately Awareness of and training in supporting schoolwide work related to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion practices to build a sense of belonging throughout the school Strong knowledge of relevant current state and federal laws Flexibility and adaptability to meet the needs of the students and program.
