Summary
The Senior Counsel, Commercial and Operations is responsible for providing advice, legal counsel and risk assessment to the Company regarding commercial and operational issues. Serves as the primary legal support for commercial and operational groups at the Company.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities Partner closely with senior management to support the legal and business needs of the Company and further the mission of the organization and its customers, vendors and stakeholders Draft, review and negotiate contracts (vendors/customers/suppliers) along with contracts administrators; work closely with commercial and operational teams. Draft and support legal, operational and commercial policy and process development Oversee intellectual property (IP) filings and protective actions; work with relevant departments to promote IP awareness and compliance Assist real estate group with contracts and commercial and operational issues regarding Company locations Provide regulatory support, including deep dive into evolving regulations industry issues. Provide training and leadership on the same. Identify, monitor and assist in managing risks to the Company, including maintaining close contact with industry organizations to become aware of and understand inherent emerging risks that could affect the Company's operations Support Risk group, including claims notices and management and review of insurance policies from a commercial and operational perspective Perform legal research and investigation, and report findings and conclusions to senior and executive management. Support the Chief Legal Officer in the development and implementation of legal management systems and procedures to improve office efficiency, communication, and cost management Retain and manage outside counsel to ensure the provision of client-centered, high quality and cost-effective legal services Manage, mentor, and provide career development to members of legal department Assist in the management of the legal operations budget Represent the legal department on selected internal committees Assist sustainability and regulatory team with various projects, including acting as legal representative on same Education & Certifications J.D. from accredited university with a preference for top-tiered university Must be licensed to practice law in the United States Work Experience Minimum 6 years' experience in commercial transactions Strong background and understanding of the oil and gas service and midstream industries; knowledge of the compression industry a plus Skills & Abilities Strong verbal and written communication skills Strong ability to perform research, synthesize and articulate findings Strong management and multitasking skills Physical Demands Must be able to remain in a stationary position 75% of the time Constantly operate a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a copy machine and computer printer Frequently communicates with other employees about their legal inquiries. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations Must be able to work under pressure and occasional long or irregular hours
