Global HRGlobal Finance, Procurement & ITGroup Legal & Corporate AffairsGlobal Communication & External RelationsTransformationGlobal Strategy, Sustainability and Growth (SSG)Who we are looking for PurposeTo strengthen our Global Business Development team we are searching for an experienced candidate as Senior Director of Global Business Development RARE, to be included in the Global Business Development Rare Team. The role will report into VP, Head Global Business Development RARE.
Main ResponsibilitiesAs Senior Director of Global Business Development RARE, you will be responsible for the following tasks:
Continuously monitor and perform systematic landscaping of opportunities in the external innovation space within Rare Diseases to identify Business Development opportunities in line with corporate and GBU strategy.Generate and build an extensive international network in the RARE space and communicate with potential external partners Chiesi's value proposition in the RARE space.Build and nurture solid relationships and cooperation with R&D, commercial within the RARE Business Units and other relevant corporate functions, and effectively lead cross-functional teams.Work closely with Due Diligence, Alliance Management and Integration colleagues to provide project leadership on RARE BD opportunities, ensuring strong coordination and effective communication between Chiesi team and external partners from initial assessment through deal closure.Guarantee clear information flow, involvement and alignment of all internal stakeholders and robustness of the final outcome, from scientific, business and financial perspectives including recommendations to governance/management, continuously seeking to improve the internal BD process.Assemble business cases and master all aspects of valuation (value drivers, risks, upsides) for all types of RARE opportunities and generate and update appropriate deal structures and deal terms that align internal and external interests in coordination with the VP, Head of Global Business Development RARE.Pitch opportunities to the senior leadership of the company seeking approval according to the internal governance and keep executive leadership regularly informed providing reports on results, inflection points and decisions to be made.Maintain and solidify relationships with the partners and/or counterparts throughout discussions and actively lead negotiations in coordination with the VP, Head of Global Business Development RARE.Facilitate handover to the Alliance Management and Integration Team pre and post deal.Experience RequiredA minimum of 7 years of international experience in Business Development roles in the Pharma and Biotech industry with a significant track record of deals closed for assets, both under development and in-market, preferably with global scope and in the Rare Diseases space is required; additional experience in finance or consulting or Research and Development is a plus. International exposure including but not limited to significant experience abroad (one year or more) and previous experience in a multinational organization are required.
EducationDegree in life sciences and/or pharmaceutical sciences is required. PhD or MBA is considered a significant plus.
Soft SkillsStrong strategic thinking with broad perspective, taking a 360 view when approaching issues and opportunities.Highly skilled at building collaborative relationships across the organization, through effective team- and networking, conflicts management, communication skills and intercultural sensitivity.Resilient and flexible, able to actively learn through experimentation, successes and failures and rebound from setbacks and adversity when facing new or difficult situations.Enthusiastic, highly motivated and able to work alongside the team while also inspiring and leading the team.Technical SkillsExtensive understanding of drug development process and good understanding of commercial, legal, tax/finance and IP matters.Strong analytical skills and strategic thinking, coupled with the ability to exemplify complex business issues into financial models.Excellent negotiation skills.LanguagesFluency in English is mandatory, an additional language will be considered a plus.
