SUMMARY/JOB PURPOSE: The Senior Facilities Lab Specialist role is responsible for performing periodic preventative maintenance and repairs activities on lab utilities, process and lab equipment and systems and is the first in-house responder for service calls for the equipment. This role requires accurate recording of data and completion of work order paperwork in support of facilities equipment. Responsibilities may include equipment testing, troubleshooting, maintenance, and repairs on a variety of components, and equipment and instrumentation for laboratory and utility equipment.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities: Coordinates with laboratory managers and equipment users to schedule and provide lab support service to ensure equipment and systems have maximum uptime with accurate measurements and results. Monitors and controls equipment to ensure proper laboratory systems functions including CO2, N2, CDA, specialty gasses, RODI water and HVAC. Perform and oversee lab support activities to include calibrations, maintenance and repairs of scientific instrumentation including liquid chromatography systems, gas chromatographs, spectrophotometers, and other general laboratory equipment. Responds to laboratory systems alarms, emergency calls and building system alarms. Commission and setup of new laboratory equipment and systems. (Equipment Life Cycle) Disassembles, inspects, cleans, repairs, calibrates, tests, and performs periodic maintenance of specialty equipment, systems, and controls including Freezers, CO2 Incubators, analytical scales and balances, clean air benches, lab water systems. Operates electronic test equipment, including multimeters and calibration standards. Performs complex repairs or coordinates the removal of instruments/devices needing overhaul during scheduled maintenance. Decommission of equipment and systems as needed. Records and reports abnormal functions or out-of-tolerance conditions of equipment and initiates corrective action and documentation. Reinstalls, tests, evaluates, calibrates, and maintains instruments or devices upon completion of repairs. Locates part sources, estimates costs, and prepares requisitions. Completes Work Orders and documents daily records of inspections, maintenance activity, repairs, and other work performed within approved guidelines and procedures. Coordinates with outside contractors regarding repairs covered by maintenance agreements. Troubleshoots/service or resolves problems while performing unscheduled work. Writes and updates equipment maintenance, preventative maintenance, standard operating procedures and calibration procedures. Schedules and oversees maintenance vendors and contractors in completing maintenance and repair activities. Provides supervisory functions for onsite vendors who perform onsite maintenance and calibrations. Maintains schedules and updates repair log for company property and equipment in accordance with established schedules and company procedures Conducts routine, periodic inspections to determine repair and maintenance work necessary to prevent breakdowns of lab equipment, and utilities. Complies with all company health & safety policies and procedures Accurately records data on work orders and other associated paperwork in support of Exelixis internal SOPs, policies, and approved procedures. Executes work orders for routine periodic calibration and preventative maintenance activities on process and lab equipment as well as HVAC & utility systems. Performs logbook entries and required documentation relating to Calibration & Maintenance of equipment used by Exelixis. As necessary, supports the facility during off hours for equipment and utilities either by phone or provide onsite response to address any problems that may happen. Uses hand and power tools to tests, inspects, troubleshoot lab utilities and lab equipment. Uses Computerized Maintenance Management System to maintain scheduled activities on existing assets, updates system with new assets as they come online, uses Building Management System to monitor, and trouble shoot building systems. Position performs purchase of components and/or spare parts and assist define spare parts inventory. Supervisory Responsibilities: None EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS: Education/Experience: BA/BS degree in related field and three years of related experience; or, MA/MS degree in related field and one year of related experience; or Equivalent combination of education and experience. May require certification in assigned area. Experience/The Ideal for Successful Entry into Job: GXP laboratory experience. Must have experience in maintaining equipment in support of lab facilities. Experience in maintenance, repairs, and calibrations of general laboratory equipment including HPLCs, incubators, centrifuges, mass spectrometer and pipettes required. Experience in Commercial, R&D, Clinical, Pharmaceutical Laboratory equipment maintenance and calibration. Clean room experience, Lab gowning experience. Experience with CMMS, Desktop publishing, Microsoft Office Suite, and Online Help. Knowledge/Skills: Understanding of Building Management Systems, and Computerized Management Systems Ability to read and understand mechanical blueprints and electrical schematics and PI&D drawings related to commercial, Life Science equipment, buildings, facilities & utility systems. Ability to read and work from blueprints, schematic diagrams and specification manuals. Requires specialist knowledge, training, and experience related to analytical instrumentation to include selected technique groups such as HPLC, GC, Liquid Handling, Automation, Optical Systems, Biology and Chemistry Analyzers. Ability to comprehend, analyze, and interpret documents. Ability to problem solve in situations involving multiple options. Applies strong analytical and business communication skills. Understanding of Scheduling, Maintenance & Planning Ability to operate test equipment used for calibration and maintenance. Has the ability to work in a fast-paced diverse working environment. Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across severalU.S. geographic markets, and we pay differently based on those defined markets. The base pay range for this positionis $83,000 - $117,000 annually. The base pay range may take into account the candidate's geographic region, which will adjust the pay depending on the specific work location. The base pay offered will take into account the candidate's geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, experience and internal equity, among other factors. In addition to the base salary, as part of our Total Rewards program, Exelixis offers comprehensive employee benefits package, including a 401k plan with generous company contributions, group medical, dental and vision coverage, life and disability insurance, and flexible spending accounts. Employees are also eligible for a discretionary annual bonus program, or if field sales staff, a sales-based incentive plan.
