JOB SUMMARY Responsible for all assigned Package Engineering functions, including but not limited to: • Packaging innovation & development for new product launches • Ongoing packaging changes and managing the implications of those changes • In conjunction with Supply Chain, developing & maintaining relationships with suppliers - new & existing • Managing all relevant sustainability initiatives. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS 1. Manage packaging projects as assigned by the Manager, Packaging Engineer. 2. Work with internal customers and external vendors to effectively: • Confirm and define project expectations and requirements • Regularly update stakeholders on progress/issues • Create/Solicit designs and samples as needed • Create & manage relevant documentation as needed • Conduct statistical data analysis (technical and financial) 3. Strong integration with Supply Chain to safeguard supply chain robustness, particularly in identifying & qualifying backups and alternative sources for packaging componentry 4. Frequent use of CAD (Solidworks) for a variety of purposes, including upstream NPD initiatives, secondary package design (i.e. blisters & paperboard structures), dieline creation, etc. 5. Perform all types of package testing and analysis for new and existing component qualification/validation. 6. Create, route, and maintain packaging component specifications and artwork.dielines 7. Ensure that all regulatory documentation requirements are met (Master Control compliance). 8. Service Sales requirements for new product data. (Pallet patterns and shelf planning) 9. Utilize S.O.P.s and B.O.P.s. (Follow, audit and write them) 10. Assist with managing patent work/intellectual property issues as they arise. 11. Order packaging components and services for various needs as authorized. 12. Find and research new/emerging technologies, new packaging innovations and new vendors. Regularly attend trade shows. 13. Keep abreast of current trends, practices and developments in the packaging industry. Along with the Manager, Package Engineering become the in-house subject matter expert on all aspects of Packaging - including Sustainability. 14. Problem solving for unexpected issues as they arise ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES 1. Enhances/contributes to strong sense of mission/teamwork across functional groups 2. Performs/assumes other duties/responsibilities, as may be required by the Manager, Package Engineering. 3. Supports the Winner's Circle and BQS processes. 4. Occasional travel as needed REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS 1. B.S. Packaging degree preferred; alternatively, a general knowledge of a related discipline, involving the use of a broad theoretical knowledge equivalent to a complete 4-year college or university education. 2. 1 to 3 or more years industry experience preferred 3. Existing CAD skills preferred, but not required (training can be provided) 4. Effective interpersonal skills are necessary to interact with various levels of internal and external customers. 5. A general understanding of CGMP. 6. Must possess basic knowledge of financial and accounting skills, such as ROI Analysis, Make vs Buy Determinations, Lease vs Buy, Break Even Analysis, etc. 7. General understanding of business fundamentals (particularly Supply Chain). 8. Thorough familiarity with problem analysis (solution oriented). 9. Practical experience in project planning and project implementation. 10. The ability to work independently and meet deadlines on a multitude of concurrent tasks. 11. The ability to prepare detailed and accurate documentation. 12. Excellent organization, time management and computer skills (Windows environment). 13. Must maintain the highest level of discretion regarding any/all confidential information of which he/she has access. 14. Comfort level with standard office software including Microsoft Office apps and specialty software such as CAPE. Per above, familiarity with Solidworks (or any CAD system) and Adobe Illustrator is a plus. 15. Willing to accept other duties, as assigned. 16. The ability to develop and maintain an effective working relationship with internal/external customers, function as a team player, accept constructive criticism from management and comply with Company policies. PHYSICAL DEMANDS & ENVIRONMENT 1. This position requires the individual to Stand or Walk up to 33% of the time. This position requires the individual to Sit, Talk or Hear, and use hands to Finger, Handle or Feel 66-100% of the time. This position requires the individual to reach with hands and arms 33 to 66% of the time. 2. This position will require the individual to lift up to 10 pounds 33-66% of the time. 3. The vision requirements for this position includes close vision of 20 inches or less; distance vision of 20 feet or more, color vision (ability to distinguish between colors), peripheral vision (ability to see up, down, left, right while eyes are fixed on a given point), depth perception (3 dimensional vision), and ability to adjust focus (ability to adjust the eye to bring an object into sharp focus). 4. This position has no exposure to measurable environmental hazards or conditions. 5. The noise level for this position will Be Moderate Noise (Ex: Business office equipment, computer printers, production machinery, light traffic).
