The Grid Edge team consists of leading analysts covering some of the most cutting-edge topics in the energy transition, including transportation and building electrification, microgrids, distributed energy resource participation in wholesale and retail markets, demand flexibility, and grid modernization. Our research and thought leadership inform the strategies of key players throughout the energy industry, driving innovative business models while hastening the energy transition.
The Analyst will support our growing, multi-faceted coverage of EV charging through data gathering, organizing, and modeling. This includes maintaining evergreen datasets such as charging station deployments and charging network integrations and integrating them into client-facing dashboards and research reports. The primary region of coverage will be North America, but collaboration on other regions will also be involved. The Analyst will employ their quantitative skills to contribute to forecast models for capital expenditure, charging demand, and charging flexibility. Beyond published research content, they will also support client requests, consulting engagements, and presentations. All of this will be done in close collaboration with other members of the Grid Edge team and other research teams.
The Analyst will stay up to date on key developments in transportation electrification and related technologies and take an active role in team discussions and content planning and creation.
Main Responsibilities Develop and maintain datasets on EV charger deployment, manufacturing, and cost; charging network integrations; commercial fleet electrification, utility EV programs; state and federal policy; and company investment and corporate activityConduct hands-on research throughout the year, including not only data gathering but literature review, desk research, and outreach to key industry stakeholdersDevelop and maintain forecast models for EV charger deployment, capital expenditure, power demand, and load flexibilityConduct research into cutting-edge topics including V2X, fleet energy management, DCFC-storage colocation, and residential managed charging, based on team prioritiesIntegrate data, forecasts, and other content into EV charging reports as well as teamwide reports, including our US DER Outlook and Grid Edge Quarterly Executive BriefingDevelop and maintain client-facing dashboards, collaborating with data and product teamsSupport client data requests and consulting engagementsPresent at conferences, moderate panels, engage with media, and publish thought pieces Qualifications Four years of experience in technology, finance, or energyAt least two years of experience in the e-mobility space, whether on the automaker, charging provider, utility, investor, or research sideA Bachelor's degree, and preferably a Master's degree, in a social, physical, or environmental science, or policyA track record of publication and productivity as a researcherStrong modeling skills, including the ability to independently navigate, extend, and simplify large-scale Excel modelsStrong research abilities, with the ability to effectively mine public datasets, regulatory filings, financial disclosures, secondary research reports, and media reportsExceptional written and oral communication skills, with the ability to articulate key takeaways and craft compelling data-driven visualsA problem-solving instinct and a readiness to connect dots, form hypotheses, and confirm them with data Nice to Haves Experience developing python models, including Jupyter notebooks and data science libraries (pandas, numpy, scikit-learn, scipy, etc.)Experience working with relational databases, including SQL queries and bulk imports, table design, and database normalizationExpertise in battery storage, the utility sector, or power markets Equal Opportunities We are an equal opportunities employer.
