GENERAL SUMMARY/ OVERVIEW
The Functional Genetics Lab utilizes in vitro and in vivo models to evaluate the function of
genetic variants associated with asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).
The Senior TRAIII will be an active participant in experimental research and will have the
opportunity to present his/her lab work. He/she will work independently, perform non-
routine, highly specialized experiments, and participate in the modification of research
protocols. He or she will supervise TRAI in relevant projects.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1) Execute molecular biology experiments and optimize and archive protocols for lab use;
write new protocols and update existing protocols.
2) Responsible for coordination of assigned projects, including quality assurance, tracking
upplies, preparing data reports, prioritizing time to meet deadlines, and maintaining
detailed and accurate laboratory notebooks and other records.
3) Place orders for lab general supplies and reagents when needed.
4) Prepare reagents, solutions and buffers for use in procedures.
5) Under supervision of Research Laboratory Director, establish new research techniques and modify existing ones, and present research projects independently in weekly lab meeting.
6) Process and handle murine and human lung samples.
7) Assist with protocol revision/development, researching new techniques to accomplish study objectives. Provide solutions to technical issues that arise in the laboratory. Take initiative during troubleshooting to research the possible causes of an issue and schedule technical support, as necessary.
8) Responsible for the organization, tracking, and maintenance of all freezers. Coordinate
routine maintenance and repairs of all lab instruments and equipment.
9) Train new technicians on all laboratory protocols and procedures. Assist with supervision of technicians in the laboratory.
10) All other duties as assigned.
