The University of Maryland (College Park) Department of Geographical Sciences is searching for a Senior Systems Architect/Administrator and Storage Engineer to support global environmental change research at the Global Land Analysis and Discovery laboratory in the Department of Geographical Sciences at the University of Maryland. The GLAD lab monitors global land change using time-series satellite imagery, including tropical deforestation, crop monitoring, urbanization, among other themes. Results quantify the changing balance between economic land uses and natural systems on a changing planet. To do our work, the GLAD lab employs a data intensive HPC to process Pb scale raster inputs and is supported by various funding sources from NASA, USAID, the government of Norway, Bezos Earth Fund, and the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation. We are seeking talented engineers to manage our processing system.
The Sr. Storage Engineer is responsible for large PB scale storage environments in the department and GLAD environments. The engineer is responsible for a lot of high capacity FC based storage arrays and software defined storage systems running on Ceph. The position is responsible for about 72PB of raw storage capacity and growing. The position is also responsible for supporting backup and archive using IBM tape library spanning 10s of PB scale. The position is responsible for full life cycle management of these environments.
This position is a 12-month, full-time status. We are able to provide sponsorship of an H1B visa. The salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established from $120,000 to $160,000 per year, depending on qualifications.
