We are seeking a Thermal System Engineer to help us develop one of a kind spacecraft. You will contribute to missions such as Dragonfly, one of NASAs most exciting interplanetary missions, currently under development by APL (dragonfly.jhuapl.edu). You will join a hardworking team of engineers that conceive, develop, analyze, test, launch and fly spacecraft systems. As a Thermal System Engineer, you will... Primarily be responsible to oversee the thermal control system for the Dragonfly mission, working closely with leads to ensure that designs meet all program requirements and that all interfaces are consistent across the system, ensuring efficient thermal management for the whole mission. Develop and maintain thermal related requirements, specifications, ICDs, and validation and verification methods for the mission Execute to team milestones and deliverables Facilitate team interactions among stakeholders. collaborating with multidisciplinary teams and engineering staff on thermal design, analysis and testing Lead thermal system trades and studies Lead and support design reviews, peer reviews and provide mentorship to junior engineers Travel as required in support of technical reviews, testing and exchanges Stay updated on industry trends and advancements in thermal control technologies and apply them to spacecraft design QualificationsYou meet our minimum qualifications for the job if you... Possess a BS in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering or equivalent Have 7+ years of experience in providing end-to-end thermal engineering support of spacecraft and instrument thermal design, analysis and testing. Have a solid basis and understanding of heat transfer theory and demonstrated proficiency using the Thermal Desktop software package Have knowledge and experience in Systems Engineering processes Have experience in generating requirements, writing specifications, creating test plans, and preparing and presenting material for design reviews Can demonstrate effective communication and teamwork skills Have excellent problem-solving skills Are able to obtain a Secret security clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship. You'll go above and beyond our minimum requirements if you... Have a MS in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering or equivalent Have the ability to lead cross organizational teams Have experience in thermal modeling of airflow including forced and natural convection Have experience with Thermal Desktop features such as FloCAD and TD Direct Why work at APL?
