Job Title: Special Education Teacher
Supervisor: Director of Special Education
Hours: Monday through Friday 8:00am-4:45pm Duration: 11 months
Salary: Is commensurate with the teacher's scale
Description: The Special Education Teacher is responsible for providing Special Education services and accommodations to our K1-12 students, including co-teaching, inclusion and small group instruction and support. The position is best suited for an individual with a deep understanding of Special Education practices and procedures. Candidates must have the ability to inspire students as a positive adult role model while maintaining an orderly and safe classroom environment. Candidates must hold appropriate MA Licensure in Special Education- Moderate Disabilities for grade level applying
Responsibilities include (but not limited to):
Special Education
Implement school-wide procedures to maintain a school culture of high academic achievement and behavioral expectations.Track and Develop IEP goals for mandated studentsIn conjunction with classroom teachers, develop accommodations for curriculum and deliver rigorous, standards-based instruction and assessmentsServe as direct service provider for approximately 15-20 studentsCollect and use data to inform instruction of student learningCollaborate with grade level colleagues and other specialist to ensure that every student shows student achievement gainsCultivate positive relationships with colleagues, students, parents and familiesUse of direct, multisensory program such as Orton Gillinghaam and/or Wilson Reading
Planning and Preparation for Learning
Knowledge - Demonstrates subject area expertise and a cutting-edge grasp of child development and how students learn.Standards - Develops a well-honed game plan for the year that is tightly aligned with state standards and assessments.Units - Plans all expeditions backwards, aligned with high standards, state assessments, and all Bloom's levels; documents and shares all lessons with supervisor at a minimum of two (2) weeks in advance.Assessments - Plans diagnostic, formative, and summative assessments to closely monitor student learning.Anticipation - Anticipates students' misconceptions and confusions and develops multiple strategies to overcome them.Lessons - Designs lessons with clear, measurable goals closely aligned with standards and expedition outcomes.Engagement - Designs highly relevant lessons that will motivate all students and engage them in active learningMaterials - Designs lessons that use an effective mix of high-quality, multicultural learning materials and technology.Differentiation - Designs lessons that break down complex tasks and address all learning needs, styles, and interests.Environment - Artfully uses room arrangement, materials, and displays to maximize student learning of all material, focusing on learning targets and student work.
