•A bachelor's degree in accounting, finance or related field required.
•Master's degree and/or Certified Public Accountant (CPA) preferred.
•5+ years governmental accounting or related experience required, with an emphasis financial processing, general ledger, cash management, internal controls, and audits of local government agencies preferred.
QUALIFICATIONS
•Experience with financial reporting and analysis, cash management, and general ledger reconciliations.
•Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Excel, Outlook, and Word are required.
•Experience with dynamic ERP systems (Oracle Cloud preferred).
•Excellent analytical, problem solving and troubleshooting abilities; with strong data analysis acumen and focus on accuracy and attention to detail.
•Ability to be flexible, prioritize time effectively, team oriented and willing to take more responsibility as knowledge is required.
•Self-motivated with the ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
•Excellent customer service, communication (both written and verbal), and cross group collaboration skills are required.
•Demonstrated knowledge of finance and accounting practices [Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB)].
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
•Manages, prepares, and analyzes financial and accounting records to ensure accuracy and compliance with reporting procedures and standards.
•Responsible for budgeting, accounting, reconciling, reporting, invoicing, and project closeout of construction projects.
•Serves as School System's liaison between federal, state, local and other auditors from government or monitoring agencies.
•Prepares journal entries to record financial activity, reclassifications, and corrections to the general ledger.
•Prepares, examines, and analyzes accounting records, financial statements, and other financial reports to assess accuracy, completeness, and conformance to reporting and procedural standards.
•Maintains and documents up-to-date accounting policies and procedures, including internal controls.
•Responsible for reviewing and analyzing data and compiling federal, state and local financial/accounting reports as required by internal management, outside agencies and external auditors.
•Assists with the preparation of fiscal and calendar year-end reports; making necessary adjustments to ensure expenses are properly recorded.
•Responsible for providing audit schedules as required.
•Assists with cash management, accounts receivable and fixed asset functions.
•Assists in preparation of annual financial report and prepares balance sheet reconciliation to be submitted to MSDE.
•Implements and conducts school audits and site-reviews on a rotating basis. Provides feedback including findings and recommended corrective actions to school principals and financial secretaries.
•Performs other work-related duties as assigned.

The environmental factors and/or physical requirements of this position include the following: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to have ordinary ambulatory skills sufficient to visit other locations; and the ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and manipulate (lift, carry, move) light to medium weights of 10-50 pounds. Requires good hand-eye coordination, arm, hand, and finger dexterity, including ability to grasp, and visual acuity to use a keyboard. The employee frequently is required to sit, reach with hands and arms, talk, and hear.
