About this position

The substitute associate teacher supports other teaching staff by implementing curriculum and facilitating enriching classroom experiences while ensuring a safe and caring environment for the enrolled children. This role is responsible for following agency policies, providing supervision for enrolled children, and maintaining a quality program. What you'll be doing

While in the classroom:
Substituting as needed and directed by the child development supervisor; Adjusting to the schedule and needs of the site where assigned; Being flexible in daily assignments and ready to change site assignments, if necessary; Assisting in planning and implementing preschool program based on the High Scope curriculum; Supervising and interacting with children in a positive manner; Maintaining learning centers which reflect the interests and needs of the children enrolled in the program; Providing a wide variety of experiences for children, with an emphasis on active learning; Providing a well-supervised and safe environment; Using sensitivity and good judgment when interacting with children, parents and staff; Reading and implementing all agency and program policies and procedures; Encouraging language development and respect for language diversity in classroom and community; Accomplishing other duties, as assigned, to create and maintain a quality preschool program; Working effectively with other team members; Actively participating in the in-service training; Cooperating with the teacher in planning, supervision and implementation of the overall program; Planning or participating in planning and implementing parent meetings and activities; Recruiting, training and supervising parents and other volunteers; Providing a clean and sanitary facility (inside and out) on a daily basis, according to Options for Learning's center-based checklist; Promoting full enrollment and participating in recruitment of children as directed; Accurately completing all assigned paperwork and documentation, on a timely basis, according to agency policies and procedures; Assisting the teacher as needed; Performing other duties as assigned.
While in the office:
Answering telephones and taking accurate messages; Giving program information to inquiring families; Light typing as needed; Interacting with office and teaching staff in a positive manner; Handling family and office files appropriately and confidentially; What you bring to the table Twelve semester units acceptable to licensing in child development, with a passing grade of "C" or better; One year of experience working with children; Child development associate teacher permit or associate's degree or bachelor's degree in early childhood education; Ability to correctly and effectively communicate in written and oral English; Command of Spanish, Cantonese, Mandarin, or Vietnamese (preferred); California driver's license, daily use of an automobile, and automobile liability insurance. Job specifications Reports to the head start teacher and child development supervisor; Full-time or part-time; Nine-month approximate work year; Requires travel to various local sites on a daily basis; Requires some evening and weekend work hours; Employment, responsibilities, compensation and other factors may be affected by changes in governmental regulations, the agency's contracts, or at agency discretion. Salary $19.84 - $22.53 per hour
