JOB ACTIVITIES/MISSIONS
The Senior Tax Accountant will be assuming responsibility with direct involvement in tax aspects results in recurrent contact with internal and external parties in these areas. It is a key contributor of the financial information complying with the legal and tax obligations of the company, as well respects the accounting priority controls. To support the finance department and the team, the Senior Tax Accountant will be working to meet the department milestones by:
Tax Compliance:
Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual tax returns for corporations, ensuring compliance with both United States Virgin Islands (USVI) and Puerto Rico tax laws.
Manage tax filings related to Puerto Rican tax incentives, including applications and ongoing compliance for tax exemptions.
Prepare Puerto Rican excise tax, IVU (sales tax), and payroll tax filings under the guidance of Manager/Senior.
Tax Planning and Consulting:
Provide tax advice to cross-functional departments such as legal, sales, and accounting, particularly around Sales and Use Tax and tax withholding at source rules.
Identify opportunities for tax minimization and efficiency.
Perform tax research on Puerto Rican and U.S. tax issues using external tools.
Assist senior tax professionals in researching local tax incentives and credits and ensuring compliance with new tax regulations.
Audit Support:
Assist in preparing tax audits and responding to inquiries from the Puerto Rico Hacienda, USVI Bureau of Internal Revenue, or U.S. IRS.
Coordinate with management on audit strategies and responses.

Ability to analyze complex tax situations, identify key tax issues, and propose effective solutions.

Strong ability to communicate tax-related issues to non-tax professionals, including senior management, in a clear and concise manner.
Attention to Detail:
Strong attention to detail to ensure accuracy in tax calculations, filings, and compliance procedures.
EXTERNAL CANDIDATE PROFILE
Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field.
CPA (Certified Public Accountant) license or in-pursuit is preferred, not necessary.
2-4 years of experience in tax preparation, compliance, and consulting, preferably with experience in both Puerto Rican and U.S. federal tax matters.
Experience working in public accounting firm or similar position at a multinational corporation
Familiarity with Puerto Rico tax laws, tax incentives, local corporate income tax, sales and use tax (IVU), and excise taxes.
Knowledge of tax software (e.g., Expert Tax). Proficiency in SAP and Microsoft Excel.
Understanding of U.S. GAAP and IFRS as applicable to tax.
Understanding of ASC 740 (accounting for income taxes)
Proficiency in preparing tax returns for corporations including that subject to Puerto Rico's tax regime.
Bilingual proficiency (English and Spanish) is typically required, as tax documentation and communication may occur in both languages.
CPA license or candidate is preferred, but not required.
EA (Enrolled Agent) or specialized tax certifications are welcomed.
