Job Description
NREL is seeking a motivated and talented Microscopy Intern to join the Analytical Microscopy and Imaging Sciences Group.
The intern will work primarily on a project that focuses on investigating the nanoscale origin of degradation in silicon solar modules using scanning transmission microscopy (SEM) and associated spectroscopic techniques like electron dispersive x-ray spectroscopy (EDS). SEM investigations will employ in-situ biasing to monitor ion migration in the microscope in real time. A large component of this position will involve the analysis of map and line EDS data using the Oxford AZtec software. Familiarity with these techniques and software is preferred.
Key Responsibilities:
Analyze time-series collections of scanning electron microscope images Collaborate with researchers to design and conduct in-situ experiments Compile correlative images and energy dispersive x-ray spectroscopy maps of biased solar modules. Engage in weekly remote meetings and conduct analysis remotely. Present and write up findings in monthly updates to the project team. Basic Qualifications
Minimum of a 3.0 cumulative grade point average.
Undergraduate: Must be enrolled as a full-time student in a bachelor's degree program from an accredited institution.
Post Undergraduate: Earned a bachelor's degree within the past 12 months. Eligible for an internship period of up to one year.
Graduate: Must be enrolled as a full-time student in a master's degree program from an accredited institution.
Post Graduate: Earned a master's degree within the past 12 months. Eligible for an internship period of up to one year.
Graduate + PhD: Completed master's degree and enrolled as PhD student from an accredited institution.

Annual Salary Range (based on full-time 40 hours per week)
Job Profile: / Annual Salary Range: $34,000 - $54,400

NREL is subject to Department of Energy (DOE) access restrictions.
