Position Summary/Purpose of Position:
The Elevate Program is moving the University of Maryland Fearlessly Forward, leading the transition from legacy mainframe student systems to Workday Student. To achieve the program's goals, the Graduate School is seeking a dynamic, highly skilled and experienced professional to join our team as the Workday Functional Lead for the Workday Student Graduate School domain. This is a full-time permanent position in the Graduate School.
The Workday Functional Lead for the Graduate School is responsible for driving decisions related to design, configuration, and testing of business processes as well as providing policy recommendations and business requirements for the Workday configuration. This includes graduate admissions and deferrals, tuition remission, fellowships/awards, graduate assistantships, student records, degree requirements, policy waivers, leaves of absence, grievances, and the typical graduate student life cycle as relevant to the enterprise student information system.
This position will be a part of the Workday Student implementation team but will retain formal reporting within the Graduate School. As part of a broader cross-functional implementation team, the Functional Leads across units will collaborate and coordinate with key Elevate team members to meet program deadlines and deliverables overseen by Elevate Program governance. They will also convey and represent the needs and requirements of their business unit.
This role reports to the Assistant Dean of the Graduate School. This role works closely with other Student Functional Leads, the Student Product Owner in the Division of Information Technology (DIT) and the Student Graduate School Workday Analyst (DIT). Following the Workday Student implementation the incumbent will serve as a member of the Graduate School advisory staff team and provide support to Graduate School staff and collaborators, evaluate upgrades, operationalize changes, support configurations, lead continuous process improvements, collaborate with DIT, and provide guidance as the Student Graduate School Workday expert.
This position is considered essential and may be required to work at the normal location or an alternative location during a major catastrophic event, weather emergency, or other operational emergencies to help maintain continuity of university services.
Responsibility Areas Workday Expertise
Learn Workday Student processes & functionality and gain expert level knowledge of the Workday Graduate Student domain. Develop a deep understanding of UMD's Finance and HCM processes that relate to the Student system. In particular, understand the changes, challenges and opportunities that the implementation of Workday Student will have in areas such as graduate student admissions, records, assistantships, tuition remission, degree requirements, and related operations.

Campus Teams: Facilitate requirements gathering from campus
Change Impacts: Change impact validation
Decisions: Drive functional decisions for functional area within the project team
Technical Workstreams: Participate in requirement drafting sessions for other workstreams
Data Conversion: Validate data for data conversion
Testing: Gather, document, and execute test scenarios
Training: Prepare training materials

Minimum Qualifications:
Education:
Bachelor's Degree required.
Experience:
Minimum of seven years (7+) of progressively responsible experience with graduate school-related operations in a higher education environment or a combination of functional and graduate school ERP implementation experience.
Experience implementing a modern student information system or extensive experience using UMD's student information system/student accounts system.
Demonstrated experience leading system or technology implementation initiatives, including project management, team building leadership, and staff supervision.
Experienced knowledge of federal, State, agency, and university policies, and operational processes and procedures as related to graduate education.
Experienced knowledge of the typical graduate student life cycle, from admissions through graduation, and the typical student record information associated with the typical graduate student life cycle.
Experience working with collaborative offices related to the graduate student life cycle, including admissions, international student services, university registrar, graduate program directors and coordinators, etc.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Demonstrated experience in adapting new technologies.
Ability to work with collaborative offices related to the graduate student life cycle, including admissions, international student services, university registrar, graduate program directors and coordinators, etc.
Ability to serve as a team lead and/or work as part of team and with members of other functional/technical teams to identify action items, team member responsibilities, etc.
Excellent interpersonal skills, including relationship and conflict management.
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal. Ability to deliver presentations to a variety of audiences including senior leadership.
A functional understanding of business process flows, Lucid charts or other equivalent charting tools.

Salary range $120,000-$150,000.
