The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) Partnerships for Climate Smart Commodities (PCSC) program has awarded a four-year grant agreement for NCBA CLUSA to manage a pilot Climate Smart Commodity project in Puerto Rico. NCBA CLUSA is leading this pilot project, Café del Futuro, with Productores de Café de Puerto Rico (PROCAFE), the University of Puerto Rico Experimental Agriculture Station-Mayaguez, SustainCERT, and La Liga de Cooperativas de Puerto Rico to provide technical and financial assistance to 1,500 historically underserved Puerto Rican coffee farmers as well as incentivize them to implement climate-smart agriculture and forestry (CSAF) practices 10,000 acres of farmland that lead to improved specialty coffee production and open or expand access to new higher-value markets including voluntary carbon markets.
NCBA CLUSA is currently seeking qualified candidates for the position of Branding & Marketing Specialist. This position will be hybrid with biweekly in-person check-ins in San Juan or other agreed upon locations. The Branding & Marketing Specialist will play a key role in leading the co-creation of the project's climate smart specialty branding and marketing initiatives including information campaign, packaging seal, buyer-seller relationships, and farmer trainings.
The Branding & Marketing Specialist will facilitate periodic workshops for participating farmers on branding and marketing strategies for their climate-smart coffee products; identify potential specialty coffee buyers and promote climate-smart Puerto Rican coffees both locally and in the continental US; lead the co-creation of an information campaign with inputs from project partners and consultants regarding the project's climate-smart benefits; as well as coordinate the development of a climate-smart seal or mark for project participants to differentiate their products.
The
Café del Futuro Branding & Marketing Specialist
is an employee of NCBA CLUSA based in Puerto Rico and reports to the Project Director but will coordinate with all NCBA CLUSA and project partner staff and consultants.
ESSENTIAL AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITIES
Develop climate-smart campaign concepts and messaging for brand awareness and promotional outreach.
Project management of external marketing vendors, e.g. designers, video production, media relations consultant, printers, web developers, etc.
Identify and analyze project participants' products and branding to assist participants to implement updates for improved visibility
Coordinate with project partners to facilitate workshops and trainings for project participants on subjects such as digital marketing strategies, coffee quality and cupping scores, branding and packaging, buyer specifications, and other subjects to facilitate expansion or access to markets.
Oversee PR and media relations initiatives including media relations consultant and events, such as signing ceremonies, product launches, trade shows, buyer-seller events, and other promotional event opportunities.
Identify, research, contact, and maintain relationships with specialty coffee buyers and industry specialists in PR and US markets interested in climate smart branded products.
Identify, research, and produce success stories, articles, and multimedia content such as videos, audio podcasts, photos, multimedia news releases, and more for NCBA CLUSA's weekly newsletter and USDA's social media.
Prepare materials, reports and presentation as needed for events, conferences and promotional campaigns.
Contribute to social media planning and implementation in the form of stories, posts, campaigns and reporting with project partners.
Reports to the Project director monthly to review and analyze the progress made with the farmers, strategic decisions, assess whether the established goals have been met, and evaluate public or farmer interactions and responses regarding the brand.
Assist with managing, updating and promoting material and content on the official website and various micro sites of NCBA CLUSA.
Work closely with the NCBA CLUSA's Communications team to ensure project marketing activities align with broader organizational strategies.
Travel to project sites required 25% of the time.
QUALIFICATIONS:
To perform this job successfully the individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or abilities required.
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCES
Bachelor's degree in marketing, public relations, communications or closely related field, OR accumulative years of on-the-job training and experience specific to these areas
1-2 years of marketing communications experience
Strong writing skills developing print and online content including case studies, collateral, newsletters, white papers, social media and web content
Experience in the specialty coffee industry and/or climate smart agriculture
Experience developing presentations and event materials
Experience managing external marketing vendors and agencies
Experience overseeing media relations and strong understanding what works in PR
Experience managing social media and online outreach and strong understanding of effective techniques and strategies
Develop strategy and hands-on execution of email, social media and online outreach
Proactive, entrepreneurial mindset with strong organizational and project management skills, particularly of overseeing production of deliverables and online, social media and PR savvy.
The Café del Futuro Branding & Marketing Specialist must be mission oriented, collaborative, proactive, innovative, inclusive, and efficient

LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Native fluency in speaking and writing Spanish is required and working proficiency in English is preferred.
