GENERAL SUMMARY/OVERVIEW STATEMENT:
As a not-for-profit organization, Mass General Brigham (MGB) is committed to supporting patient care, research, teaching, and service to the community by leading innovation across our system. Founded by Brigham and Women's Hospital and Massachusetts General Hospital, MGB supports a complete continuum of care including two academic medical centers, community and specialty hospitals, a managed care organization, a physician network, community health centers, home care and other health-related entities. 
Within MGB, the Brigham sites include Brigham and Women's Hospital (BWH), Brigham and Women's Faulkner Hospital (BWFH), Brigham and Women's ambulatory sites, and Brigham and Women's Physicians Organization (BWPO) (collectively the "Brigham Sites"). Brigham is an academic medical center that serves patients from New England, throughout the United States, and from 120 countries around the world, through clinical services at our hospitals and 150 outpatient practices with more than 1,800 physicians and 4,000 nurses. The Brigham conducts the second largest hospital-based research program in the world, with an annual research budget of more than $630 million. As a major Harvard Medical School teaching affiliate, the Brigham is a cherished training ground for physicians, nurses, and allied health professionals, with 1,500 graduate medical education trainees in over 140 of the most sought-after training programs in the world.
Under the leadership of the Chief Operating Officer (COO), the Senior Vice President of Hospital Operations (SVP) is ultimately accountable for the overall administrative and strategic leadership, operating results, and financial performance of three major areas of responsibility across the Brigham Entities:
1. Inpatient Services: The SVP serves as the executive directly responsible for all aspects of the inpatient clinical enterprise across the Brigham Sites.
The SVP will serve as the executive leader, overseeing the Vice President for Inpatient Services and the Vice President Clinical Operations and Care Continuum, working collaboratively with the other SVPs for clinical services on hospital-wide initiatives to advance service optimization and integration, enhanced patient experience, and value-based care delivery. The leader will ensure that length of stay efforts, longitudinal patient flow, quality improvement, workforce management, care model innovation, and capital planning are all managed in a coordinated and effective manner.
2. Surgical and Procedural Services: The SVP serves as the executive directly responsible for all aspects of Peri-Operatives and Peri-procedural Services across the Brigham Sites. Collectively, these sites perform ~45,000 surgical cases annually and ~280,000 procedures annually.
The SVP will oversee the Vice President of Peri-Operative Services who is accountable for the overall operations and financial performance of the following areas:

· Associated Peri-Operative Service across all sites, including:
The SVP will also oversee the Vice President of Peri-Procedural Services who is accountable for the overall operations and financial performance of the following areas: 
· Ambulatory Treatment Room/Wound Care Center
· Brachytherapy Suite
· Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory
· Electrophysiology Laboratory
· Interventional Nephrology/Radiology
The SVP will work collaboratively with the other SVPs for clinical services on hospital-wide initiatives to advance service optimization and integration, enhanced patient experience, and value-based care delivery. The leader will ensure that patient access, operational throughput, quality improvement, workforce management, care model innovation, and capital planning are all managed in a coordinated and effective manner.
3. Support Services: The SVP serves as the executive directly responsible for all support services, including facility utilization and operations, engineering, environmental services, environmental health and safety, food services, materials management, office services, and transport across the Brigham Sites. In doing so, s/he will:
Promote a safe environment and perform all related responsibilities to the highest of standards.
Develop and implement systems to monitor performance against budgets, schedules, and established quality control standards.
Protect the interests of the Brigham Sites and Mass General Brigham effectively, and ensure appropriate controls are in place to guarantee compliance with all financial, regulatory, and safety requirements.
Oversee and directs all operating and capital expenditures for space development, consistent with planning and design goals.
Take a leadership role in the development of annual and multi-year capital budgets, especially those related to construction and development.
 
In all the previously listed areas, the SVP works in close partnership with the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) and the Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) to ensure coordination and collaboration.
In addition, the SVP is responsible — directly, or in partnership with senior leader colleagues — for a number of ongoing, broad organizational requirements, including:
• Ensuring that competent, efficient, and coordinated patient care is uniformly provided to patients in ambulatory, inpatient and community settings;
• Ensuring that all educational programs meet institutional and outside regulatory requirements;
• Ensuring that all research initiatives are appropriately supported;
• Directing and developing the organization of services and programs within the scope of responsibility of the SVP; 
• Managing all operating and capital budgets for the Brigham Sites within the purview of the SVP; 
• Leading the management team within the SVP's enterprises toward attainment of identified short- and long-term goals and objectives; 
• Advancing MGB's commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion;
• Executing strategies and plans designed to achieve MGB's strategic objectives; 
• Collaborating with other institutional leaders to meet MGB strategic goals and objectives; and
• Serving as an institutional leader across the Brigham Sites.
MINIMUM JOB QUALIFICATIONS: 10+ years of experience as a leader within an academic medical center.Demonstrated track record of successfully leading teams.Experience working in a highly matrixed organization / environment strongly preferred. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED: Leadership:Truly outstanding interpersonal skills and a high degree of social facility in obtaining cooperation and support from a broad range of people are required.A demonstrated ability to interact with all members of the organization in ways that enhance understanding, respect, cooperation, and problem solving is essential.Results orientation:Results-driven approach with experience/ability to achieve results in a metrics based analytical environment.The ability to work independently and accurately and concisely disseminate information in both written and verbal formats is required.The ability to independently resolve quickly most problems encountered is essential.Organizational Skills:Outstanding organizational skills are necessary to manage many competing timetables and responsibilities and deadline pressures.The ability to delegate, effectively supervise, and plan for the timely and successful completion of short- and long-term objectives is essential.The responsibilities of this position require detailed, concentrated effort and constant re-establishment of priorities as well as complex and sensitive decision-making. · Collaboration: Able to work effectively within a matrixed organizational structure.
· Business acumen: Budget management, data and analytics market knowledge, and analytical skills to support health care delivery and hospital operations, ability to understand and integrate system budget challenges into proposed annual budgets.
Initiative: A self-starter who can develop roadmaps, frameworks and plans in an area with minimal precedent.A successful track record of executive management and the ability to provide support, direction, and development counsel to leaders is required.Communicator/Facilitator:Interpersonal, presentation and organizational skills and professional demeanor; demonstrated sensitivity, discretion, and judgment regarding confidential matters are essential. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are necessary to communicate effectively with a large and diverse constituency, including the Chairs, senior departmental leaders, hospital and BWPO leaders and administrative staff, research faculty at all levels, research trainees and staff, representatives of other BWH offices, collaborating institution officials, granting agencies (NIH, industry and foundations), potential donors, representatives, and vendors. A good command of English language, including medical and scientific terminology, is critical.Program Implementation: Proven ability to develop and implement programs. · Project Management: Proven ability to successfully manage highly complex projects.
· Innovation: Creativity in exploring and adapting new "measure to improve" and decision support approaches.
