Reporting to the ICA's Ellen Matilda Poss Director ("Director"), the Chief Financial Officer ("CFO") works as a member of the ICA's leadership team to ensure the short- and long-term financial health of the ICA through strategic financial planning and effective financial modeling, forecasting, budgeting and reporting. The CFO oversees the ICA's financial, investment, legal, and risk management practices and collaborates as a business partner with the human resources department for aspects of compensation, benefits and legal requirements. The CFO will ensure the ICA's financial management systems, databases, policies, procedures, and controls are effective and meet the ICA's institutional needs as well as the applicable industry regulations and standards.
The position contributes to a culture of collaboration, community, and respect while embodying the principles of ICA's Quality of Service and, as a member of the senior leadership team, participates in the advancement of the museum's mission, including centering the work of Diversity, Equity, Accessibility, Inclusion, and Belonging in all areas of their work and personnel decisions.
WORKING AT THE ICA:All ICA employees are required to reside in Massachusetts and within commuting distance from their Seaport location as of their first day of work.The ICA offers the flexibility of a hybrid work week, which averages three days a week onsite for employees who are eligible to work remotely (subject to change, and at manager's discretion).RESPONSIBILITIES:Finance
- Develop financial models and strategies that allow the ICA to meet its short- and long-term financial goals and objectives;
- Oversee the Finance department inclusive of financial controls, accounts payable, accounts/donor receivables, budget tracking and financial statements. This responsibility includes supervising the Director of Finance;
- Collaborate with senior management and the Director of Finance in the effective preparation, approval, tracking and reporting of the annual operating budget (approximately $20 million);
- Oversee the annual financial audit, preparation of audited financial statements and preparation of organization's tax filings;
- Work with Development department to complete financial surveys and grant specific financial reports;
- Develop and maintain external relationships with banks and other financial institutions;
- Negotiate and secure loans and lines of credit; monitor the ICA's overall cash and liquidity; and manage the ICA's debt program;
- Manage the ICA's capital budget and work with the Deputy Director ensure projects are coordinated across the institution and meet both annual and project-based budget projections;
- In partnership with the Investment Committee, oversee the management of all investments and track and report the investment performance and status of the ICA's endowed funds;
- Examine, evaluate, recommend, and implement improvements to administrative and financial internal control systems and procedures;
Human Resources
- Partner with the Senior Director of Culture and Equity to develop and maintain HR policies and procedures in accordance with the applicable IRS and legal requirements, and best practices;
- Coordinate required regulatory filings and voluntary surveys;
- Serve as the primary ethics and whistleblower policy administrator and advise on employee relations issues when needed;
- Oversee development of and budgets for departmental staffing and compensation plans;
- In conjunction with the Senior Director of Culture and Equity and the Director of Finance, manage the ICA's 403(b) retirement plan and the annual plan audit; payroll processing and compliance;
- Oversee the procurement and coverage levels of the ICA's employee health, dental, vision, disability, life, unemployment and workers compensation insurance plans;
Compliance, Legal, and Risk Management
- Negotiate appropriate insurance coverage to protect the ICA against property loss and liability claims;
- Review and track all insurance claims and coordinate with the legal counsel;
- Prepare, negotiate, review and/or approve vendor contracts and grant agreements; when needed assist with 1099 contractor agreements;
- Oversee any urgent legal and compliance needs and manage the legal service providers;
- In conjunction with Audit Committee, oversee Payment Credit Card (PCI) compliance;
Board Committees
- Serve as staff liaison to the Board of Trustee's Audit, Finance, and Investment Committees, including regular reporting to the Committees and the Board of Trustees.
RequirementsQUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics or other quantitative or business-related discipline required; MBA/CPA preferred
- Minimum ten years of progressive experience in a senior level financial management role
- Experience developing and managing complex budgets, financial modeling, and forecasting.
- Knowledge of financial regulations and reporting requirements relevant to nonprofit organizations
- Excellent analytical, verbal and written communication, and presentation skills required
- Strong communicator with ability to make financial information accessible and comprehensible to stakeholders from a variety of backgrounds
- Must be able to connect finance to the museum's mission and values
- Strong executive presence and demonstrated ability to develop positive executive relationships
- Experience working with governing boards and committees is helpful but not required
- Excellent planning, financial management, and organizational skills
- Strong work ethic along with effective leadership, management, team building, and supervisory skills; accustomed to working in a team-based/collaborative environment
- Able to operate with transparency and with the highest degree of ethics at all times
- Operationally oriented, with the ability to bring practical insights and solutions to critical financial decisions and initiatives across the museum
- Able to manage and develop financial talent within the organization
- Ability to maintain confidential information and exercise discretion
- Excellent time management skills and the ability to prioritize work
- Excellent communication skills
- Must be able to work independently and collaboratively in a professional environment
- Must be flexible and work well under pressure
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Possess mobility to work in an office setting and use office equipment; move about throughout the museum, and travel offsite to different locations
- Ability to see, listen and talk for extended periods in person, over the telephone and computer, and understand printed materials
- Prolonged periods of remaining stationary working on a computer, standing and/or moving about the office and museum.
- Ability to lift up to 15 pounds, pushing and pulling, keyboarding and gripping
- Must be able to exchange accurate information with staff, departments, and vendors.

Starting Salary: $200,000.00 Annual
Starting compensation is based on meeting minimum qualifications.
Each ICA position has a job grade based on the position's evaluated job responsibilities, required education and experience, needed skills to perform the job, and professional knowledge.
The position's grade and respective compensation range is determined by the position's overall responsibilities, including decision making, supervisory/management requirements, resource management and budgeting duties.
Compensation is ultimately determined by the scope of the position and responsibilities, the candidate's relevant experience, and internal equity, with starting salaries typically falling in the lower half of the compensation range.
