We are seeking a Controller to play a pivotal role in our company's financial strategy, management and planning. This is a newly created role, reporting directly to the CEO. You will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of financial operations, including budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, accounting and compliance. Our team is dedicated to the development of a broad pipeline of small molecules powered by unique chemistry insights to address high unmet clinical needs. Our company was created within 5AM Ventures' 4:59 Initiative in 2023. We are currently based in the vibrant Seaport district and will be moving to a newly developed Watertown campus soon.

A blank slate to build out the finance function is your dream opportunity! > What You'll Do Financial Planning and Cash Management: Collaborate with leadership team to manage and plan the annual budget, develop forecasts and manage intercompany transactions and transfer pricing for a parent and subsidiary organizational structure. Implement effective cash management strategies to optimize working capital, monitor cash flow projections and manage liquidity. Business Leadership and Partnership: Lead a team of finance and accounting professionals in their daily operations and partner directly with the research and development teams to provide sound financial guidance for their efforts. Business Development: Advise on financial aspects of business development transactions, including licenses, option agreements and acquisitions. Accounting Operations and Compliance: Oversee accounting, payroll, accounts payable, and tax compliance functions of our third-party consulting partner. Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal government requirements, and tax compliance issues. Financial Reporting: Manage the monthly, quarterly, and anual financial close processes. Prepare accurate and timely financial statements in accordance with GAAP, ensure internal compliance with regulatory requirements. Internal Controls and Audit: Establish and maintain internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure accuracy of financial records. Implement best practices for financial processes and procedures. Manage audits and provide necessary information to external auditors. What You'll Bring You bring at least 10 years of progressive experience in accounting and finance roles, within in the biotech or life sciences industry. You have strong technical accounting skills and knowledge of GAAP. Direct experience working within a complex organizational structure requiring internal transactions under a common family of entities. Detail oriented is an understatement. In fact you noticed the typo within this job description already. You have proficiency with financial planning, modeling and analysis, budgeting, and forecasting. Proven ability to deliver results by managing third party vendors and partners, including for tax preparation and valuation. You're an open and articulate communicator with the ability to collaborate at all levels of the organization. There is no job too big or too small; you have a resourceful "roll up your sleeves" approach to your work; you prioritize team success; and you set a high standard for yourself and others. You earned your Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field. If you have your MBA and/or CPA too, this is preferable.
