We are actively recruiting a full-time Controller to assist our real estate clients with various accounting needs as part of our growing Accounting Advisory Outsourced Services practice.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities: Provide hands-on accounting operation assistance, including tenant billing and revenue recognition, CAM and expense reimbursements, A/R, A/P, debt, job costing and capitalization, and property operating expenses Coordinate the preparation of the budget and financial forecasts and report variances Help prepare and publish monthly financial statements Coordinate the preparation of regulatory reporting Research technical accounting issues for compliance Liaise with external auditors Support month-end and year-end close process Ensure quality control over financial transactions and financial reporting Manage and comply with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings Develop and document business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls Cultivate and maintain positive, productive, and professional relationships with colleagues and clients Maintain integrity of corporate information Balance multiple projects and responsibilities Communicate effectively to all levels of engagement management Create and deliver work product that exceeds client expectations Knowledge & Skills: Proven work experience as a Controller or Assistant Controller Bachelor's degree in accounting required CPA preferred Experience with real estate operating portfolios and projects under construction Thorough knowledge of GAAP and tax accounting principles and procedures Professional service environment experience is a plus Experience with general ledger functions and the month-end/year end close Technical competency in Yardi, MRI, or Real Page ERP systems is preferred Ability to assist in financial statement preparation Strong Excel skills (pivot tables, lookups, formulas) Ability to travel to clients and offices (25%) Track record of team leadership skills, e.g. mentoring junior team members Confidentiality, integrity, and high ethical standards required Time management skills and ability to multi-task Ability to work independently and take ownership of specific assignments Professional demeanor and strong communication skills, both written and oral, with an emphasis on internal and external customer service Ability to have flexibility to meet client deadlines Eagerness and willingness to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment Natural aptitude for problem solving Why DLA: Unlimited PTO and your birthday is a holiday 401(k) retirement plan with a company match Commuting expenses reimbursed Continuing education courses and training Employee referral and commissions programs Robust healthcare plans
