Cytotechnologist

DESCRIPTION OF POSITIONA person who performs screening for a variety of diseases using a microscope to detect abnormalities of the human body cells. They interpret cells collected using cytological techniques such as pap smears and fine needle samples. They work in a collaborative environment with the pathologist. At times the cytotechnologist will prepare the slides to be interpreted.QUALIFICATIONSProfessional/EducationalBachelor's degree in chemistry, biological sciences, or related fieldLaboratory training at an accreditated cytotechnologists program resulting in National Certification: CT (CLS), (AMT), (ASCP) and currently registered.Experience in slide preparation using a Thinprep or manual methodMaintain the National Certification through College of American Pathologist Pap Smear Proficiency ProgramMust meet the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Act of 1988(CLIA '88) as requirement for testing personnel in a high complexity testing laboratory.Maintain the Quality Assurance for the cytological specimens insuring the screening and rescreening of slides by appropriate parameters.PersonalEvidence of good health, grooming and professional conduct.Desire and ability to cooperate with and/or under the direction of others.Possesses a sense of responsibility, initiative and honesty.Ability to follow directions accurately.Appreciation of and desire to be a part of a health care team dedicated to providing patients optimal care.Ability to work closely with Medical Technologists, other technicians, patients, physicians, nurses and other employees.
