Playfly Sports is looking for a Director, Finance to join our team in Los Angeles, CA.
This highly-visible position will play an integral role in providing significant insights into Playfly Media's overall financial performance and perform data analyses to drive business decisions. The primary responsibility for this role is managing all aspects of Finance, including financial reporting and analysis, managing the monthly close, forecasting and budgeting, and improving existing or creating new processes along the way. Other responsibilities include overseeing the administration of the sales commission plan and managing the relationships with various accounting functions to ensure timely collection and payments, and proper GL coding.
The successful candidate will be an expert at financial data management including data acquisition, analysis, data integrity management, metrics management and reporting. The right candidate will possess excellent interpersonal skills to collaborate with multiple teams within our organization (e.g., Accounting, Sales Operations, Sales) to achieve desired results without constant supervision and will have the aptitude to learn various aspects of the business. This highly valued position will be held by someone that demonstrates superb critical thinking abilities and quantitative skills to keep the business well-informed of our financial performance by providing key insights and analytics.
WHAT YOU'LL ACCOMPLISH Direct all General Ledger reporting, including the income statement and balance sheet Direct team and pull data needed for necessary documents for monthly flash, quarterly forecasts, annual budgets, and long-range plan Review variance explanations on corporate reporting submissions versus prior year, forecast and budget Analyze monthly results to assess risk and opportunities, identify trends and recommend improvements Lead the analysis and research of P&L accounts and drive resolution of all outstanding issues Oversee and assist with the preparation and distribution of weekly, monthly and quarterly reports to be utilized in monthly close and management meetings Direct weekly changes to format and information Interact with all sales offices to ensure accurate and timely information Lead or support any ad-hoc projects and financial analyses as needed, particularly in projects involving variance analysis/reporting and key metric reporting Provide financial oversight and administration of sales commission plans Work with Corporate Finance, HR, and Sales RVPs to prepare and roll out annual commission plans Prepare annual sales goals for all positions assigned to a commission-based compensation plan Review monthly commission payment calculations. Oversee account shifts between sales offices and sales goal changes during the year, providing guidance when necessary Work closely with Sales Operations on all projects related to systems including Media Biller, Wide Orbit, Forecaster, and Pipeline Management Oversee Accounts Receivable as necessary Assist in collecting outstanding invoices Follow up on delinquent accounts Approve all adjustments and write-offs Approve accounts payable invoices and invoice coding Ensure compliance with Playfly Expense Authorization policy and enforcement of the Travel & Entertainment policy Partner with business, finance and accounting teams across the organization to identify and lead initiatives to continuously improve, automate, and scale forecasting and reporting tools, processes, and methodologies Proactively seek optimizations within own processes Drive engagement and foster high-performing team culture, including mentoring direct reports to meet and exceed expectations related to quality of work, attention to detail, development of skillsets, etc Other job-related duties as assigned WHAT YOU'LL BRINGBachelor's degree in Finance or Accounting required CPA or MBA strongly preferred 6 – 8 years relevant work experience; media/advertising/entertainment experience a plus Superior financial acumen and grasp of corporate finance and accounting fundamentals, including experience with budgeting, forecasting and variance analysis Strong analytical thinking and problem solving Previous experience leading a group or department is required Must be able to exercise independent judgment Excellent organizational and project management skills are required along with attention to detail and accuracy. Must work well in a demanding, fast-paced environment and can manage competing priorities Exceptional verbal and written communications skills, particularly the ability to develop strong arguments and present them concisely to a range of stakeholders, including executives Advanced Excel and presentation building skills with experience in creating financial models and clear, concise presentation materials Proficiency with other Microsoft office applications is a benefit ERP system experience is a required TRAVEL, LIFTING, PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS This position takes place in a quiet office setting and does not required physically demanding work Frequently required use of hands and fingers to write, manipulate telephone and computer keyboard Regularly required to hear, talk, and use close vision This position may require travel on rare occasion for company-wide meetings COMPENSATION
The base pay range for this role is $140,000 to $150,000. Actual compensation packages are based on several factors that are unique to each candidate, including but not limited to skill set, depth of experience, certifications, and specific work location. This may be different in other locations due to differences in the cost of labor.
