Purpose

The Director of Finance oversees the stewardship of financial contributions to St. Monica Catholic Community, that they might be used responsibly and effectively to form loving disciples who transform the world.
Summary
The Director of Finance carries the primary day-to-day responsibility for accounting operations of St Monica Catholic Community (SMCC: parish and schools) including budgeting, auditing, payroll, accounts payable and receivable, general ledger, and financial reporting in accordance with the generally accepted accounting principles and internal policies and procedures. The Director of Finance will provide hands-on accounting, tactical, and managerial leadership, in developing and implementing financial systems and strategies to achieve the mission and goals of St. Monica Catholic Community.
The Director of Finance seeks to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of financial operations to ensure the optimal delivery of services to internal and external constituents. The Director of Finance will ensure that all financial systems and controls reflect 'best practices,' including building a proactive financial infrastructure. He/she will direct and implement the financial activities of SMCC in order to protect its assets and to assure its liquidity.

• Effective at evaluating and, if necessary, reconfiguring finance systems and infrastructure to meet current needs.
• Gifted at supervising a variety of personnel.
• Highly proficient in accounting technology (pref Quickbooks, Financial Edge (Blackbaud), and Microsoft Dynamic Cloud.
• Agility to move between long-term strategic issues to short-term tactical implementation.
• Excellent and well-informed business judgment.

Responsibilities
• Work with the pastor, parish administrator and president of schools, school principals, the parish finance council and St. Monica Catholic Schools Board to implement annual and long-range financial plans to achieve the parish and school vision and mission and goals.
• Establish and implement all financial policies and procedures, in conjunction with the parish finance council and finance committee of the schools board, to utilize assets and implement objectives.
• Develop, define, and implement the goals of the financial organization and communicate them through the community as appropriate.
• Monitor all financial affairs, including general and cost accounting, related financial and operational controls, treasury, forecasting, cash management and cash flow, to ensure policies are observed, systems are effective, and corrective actions are taken.
• Prepare financial statements, government forms and tax documents; provide financial reporting, including variance reporting on income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow; maintain banking relationships.
• Provide reports required by the ADLA Department of Catholic Schools.
• Provide regular, clear and concise presentations on every aspect of financial management, including actual, forecasted, and budgeted activity.
• Serve as an ad hoc member of the Parish Finance council, and other committees as appropriate.
• Prepare and distribute financial reports, information and analysis as appropriate throughout the organization and its various leadership teams to ensure effective communications and to enable decision-making.
• Develop infrastructure, systems and methods to cost-effectively deliver financial and operational services; identify opportunities to reduce or eliminate costs and to leverage revenues.
• Effectively and efficiently, develop accounting and financial systems to ensure adequate support for SMCC's programs and operations and provide consistent financial reporting across all groups within SMCC.
• Provide guidance and counsel to the senior management team to foster and facilitate cost controls.
• Engage external auditors for annual and special audits as needed.
• Undertake special projects as requested by pastor, community leadership, and or finance council and schools board.
Working Environment and Physical Demands
Working Environment:
The responsibilities of the Director of Finance will primarily be performed in an office environment in the parish, or working from home.
Physical Demands:
The ability to work on a computer while sitting at a desk for extended periods of time.
Requirements
• Current CPA license
• Ten or more years of relevant accounting and financial management experience.
• Experience in and familiarity with the Catholic parish, school or non-profit sector.
Wage Range The rate of pay offered to the selected candidate is based on internal pay policy and budget. New hires are commonly paid at the minimum of the wage range or within the lower part of the range. We consider a number of factors when making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, skill sets, experience, training and other department needs.
