About La Raza Community Resource Center: La Raza Community Resource Center (LRCRC) is a bilingual, multi-service non-profit organization dedicated to meeting the social service, immigration, educational, and leadership development needs of low-income families and individuals. La Raza Community Resource Center is located in the heart of the historic San Francisco Mission District, the vibrant cornerstone of San Francisco's Latino community. We have been serving the community for over 50 years. Our Social Services Program services include a food pantry, family counseling, educational workshops, support groups, rental assistance, and many other services. Our Immigration Program attorneys provide both affirmative family-based immigration services and removal defense. All of our legal and social services are free (subsidized).
Job Summary: La Raza Community Resource Center is seeking a full-time Emergency Rental Assistance Program (ERAP) Application Specialist. Under the supervision of the ERAP Program Coordinator, the ERAP application specialist is responsible for providing support to individuals and families who have applied to San Francisco's Emergency Rental Assistance Program, a federal, state, and locally funded program providing rent assistance to tenants with highest risk for homelessness or displacement. This is an entry level position, for a self-motivated, and detail oriented individual to make a positive impact on San Franciscan tenants. This is an onsite, full-time position, with the possibility to work from home 1 day a week upon successful completion of the 90-day probationary period.
Responsibilities: Review, evaluate, and process applications submitted for rental assistance using an online platform while adhering the program's high standards and expectations. Determine eligibility, months of assistance, and funding amount for individuals seeking assistance through San Francisco (SF) ERAP based on the program's guidelines by calculating income, deductions, exemptions, and rental assistance amounts. Understand SF ERAP requirements under the program guidelines and adhere to confidentiality standards. Professionally communicate via email, phone, and online platform with landlords and tenants to request additional information needed to process applications. Follow-up with email inquiries and track outreach to landlords and tenants for documentation and information related to assigned applicants. Complete detailed work involving written and numeric data. Collaborate with program team members to ensure timely processing of applications.. Maintain a strong knowledge of the local requirements for the SF ERAP and eligibility criteria. Examines and evaluates all documents to ensure authenticity. Ensures applicants' files are complete, concise and maintain applicant and file confidentiality etiquette. Advises both tenants and landlords of required program regulations, administrative policies, and procedures . Completes reports to detail application assignment status and provides reasoning for application processing delays . Participates in weekly team meetings to discuss best practices and recommendations for improving workflow. Collaborates with supervisors and other staff members to ensure and achieve the department's goals. Ability to participate in advocacy events on behalf of the department and organization. Performs other related duties as assigned to support the agency. Required Qualifications: Effective and concise communication skills, both writing and speaking. Bi-lingual - Spanish and English . Strong customer service skills. Ability to read and follow protocols of the program. Demonstrated commitment to direct service work with low-income communities. Ability to think critically and creatively solve problems. Excellent organization and time management skills. Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment. Familiarity with basic bookkeeping and accounting principles. Ability to learn and adapt quickly. Highly proficient with the use of a computer. Preferred Qualifications:  Background in tenant advocacy and homelessness prevention. Experience working with Latino Immigrant Families. Able to work well individually and as a team to complete tasks. Prior experience working in nonprofits. Excellent written and Oral communication skills in both English and Spanish. Proficiency with software such as MS Word, Excel and internet tools. Bachelor's Degree in Social Work, Public Health, Public Policy, or related fields OR related work experience. Must be able to lift 20 lbs.
