Finance Manager – R&D Accruals COMPANY DESCRIPTION:
Our client, a Biotechnology Research company located in San Francisco Bay Area is seeking a well-qualified Finance Manager to support their growing team.
LOCATION:
The Company is located in Alameda, California.
REMOTE/HYBRID/ON-SITE: On-site. They are five days a week in the office.
SUMMARY OF POSITION:
The R&D Finance Manager (Accruals) is primarily responsible for the R&D CMC accounting close process. This position will partner extensively with CMC, Accounting, FP&A and other internal business partners to ensure a thorough understanding of our various R&D programs and lead the accurate and timely completion of the R&D CMC accrual during the accounting close. The ideal candidate will enjoy working in a fast-paced collaborative environment, have strong analytical and accounting skills, be results-oriented, pay strong attention to detail, and is highly motivated to deliver excellence in their work.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: Review and analyze R&D CMC contracts/SOWs/work orders to determine the appropriate accounting treatment
Liaison between the CMC team and Accounting team regarding the monthly R&D CMC accrual; guide the proper accounting treatment of R&D CMC related transactions
Manage and prepare the monthly R&D CMC accrual to ensure accurate and timely recording of expenses, prepayments and deposits
Ensure monthly R&D CMC accrual schedule is complete and ready for manager review
Review and/or prepare journal entries and related supporting work papers; ensure the work product complies with SOX requirements
Collaborate with FP&A forecast analyst to ensure R&D CMC forecast properly captures planned accruals
Work closely with accounting on month-end and quarter-end deliverables, including but not limit to reporting, reconciliations, etc.
Responsible for monthly R&D CMC accrual flux analysis
Support quarterly and annual audits
Ensure compliance with Company policies and the application of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (US GAAP)
Assist in process improvements and system implementations as needed
Support ad hoc projects as needed
JOB REQUIREMENTS: Education: BS/BA degree in related discipline and seven years of related experience; or,
MS/MA degree in related discipline and five years of related experience; or,
Equivalent combination of education and experience
Experience: A minimum of one year of Public Biotech/Pharmaceutical experience is preferred
A minimum of one or more years of experience working at a publicly traded company
Progressive accounting experience required
ERP systems experience required
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Must have strong analytical, strategic, problem solving and organizational skills
Strong communication (verbal and written) and presentation skills
Ability to build strong cross-functional relationships within an organization
Ability to meet tight deadlines
Team player with the ability to work independently, proactively, and effectively under pressure
Broad business acumen and sound business judgment
Advanced knowledge of Excel & intermediate knowledge of PowerPoint
Experience with financial systems – Hyperion Planning/Essbase and SAP – is preferred

COMPENSATION:
Determining compensation for this role (and others) at Vaco depends upon a wide array of factors including but not limited to the individual's skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, office location and other geographic considerations, as well as other business and organizational needs. With that said, as required by local law, Vaco believes that the following salary range reasonably estimates the base compensation for an individual hired into this position in geographies that require salary range disclosure: $149K + Bonus. The individual may also be eligible for discretionary bonuses.
