Food and Beverage Manager
Department: Food and Beverage Reports To: Assistant General Manager FLSA: Non - Exempt Updated: February 2024 Company Description Diablo Country Club, located in Diablo, CA, is a historic and welcoming establishment nestled at the foot of Mt. Diablo. Established 100 years ago as California's original family-oriented golf club, it upholds traditions of excellence and sportsmanship. The club features a rich history dating back to an 1874 country estate and offers various amenities such as the Carriage Lounge, the Red Horse Tavern, and an iconic golf course designed by Jack Neville and William Watson. Position Summary The Food & Beverage (F&B) Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of all dining venues at Diablo Country Club, including Diablo Pub, Red Horse Tavern, and Colton's. This role demands exceptional leadership skills to manage a large team across multiple outlets, with many moving parts and diverse needs. The F&B Manager must be adept at thinking on their feet, pivoting quickly, and developing last-minute game plans to address unexpected challenges, all while maintaining the highest standards of service and hospitality for members and guests. The role requires a strong leader who is passionate about creating memorable dining experiences and committed to maintaining exceptional service standards across all outlets. This individual will foster a positive work environment that values respect, inclusion, and collaboration while ensuring accountability and adherence to club standards. A deep understanding of beverage management is essential, as well as the ability to effectively communicate, sell, and train staff on wine, beer, spirits, and bartending techniques. Reporting Relationship: Servers, Runners, Host/Hostess, Bartenders Work Performed Oversee the setup, preparation, and operation of all dining venues for daily service and special events, ensuring a welcoming and refined ambiance.Manage reservations and optimize table assignments to minimize wait times and maximize service efficiency across all venues.Quickly adapt to changing circumstances, develop contingency plans, and address unexpected challenges with innovative solutions.Coordinate with kitchen staff to ensure timely preparation and delivery of orders, maintaining high food quality and presentation standards.Lead pre-shift meetings, communicating menu changes, specials, and member preferences to the service staff.Monitor and maintain cleanliness, organization, and overall appearance of all dining areas throughout the day.Address member concerns or complaints promptly and professionally, working toward satisfactory resolutions.Participate in the selection, training, and development of service staff, providing guidance, coaching, and support to foster a high-performing team aligned with the club's standards and values.Collaborate with other managers to ensure consistent service quality and a seamless transition between shifts.Oversee opening and closing procedures for all dining venues, ensuring spaces are properly cleaned, organized, and secured.Maintain accurate records of reservations, covers, and sales for all shifts and venues.Foster an inclusive environment where team members feel respected, valued, and involved in decision-making processes to enhance service and operations.Build a culture of trust and cooperation by understanding different perspectives and adapting management style to meet individual needs. Set clear expectations, provide regular feedback, and recognize achievements while addressing performance issues constructively.Support the professional growth of team members through ongoing training, mentorship, and opportunities for advancement, creating a positive and engaging workplace that reduces turnover and promotes loyalty.Ensure adherence to club policies and values, ensuring all team members understand their roles and responsibilities. Proactively identify and respond to operational challenges, member feedback, and market trends to achieve departmental goals.Utilize in-depth knowledge of wine, beer, spirits, and bartending to enhance member experiences and drive sales. Train and educate staff on beverage offerings, including tasting notes, food pairings, and cocktail preparation. Develop and implement beverage programs that align with club standards and member preferences. Minimum Requirements for Position: Bachelor's degree in hospitality management or related field preferred.Minimum of 3 years of experience in a management role within a high-end dining establishment.Strong knowledge of food and beverage service, with a focus on breakfast and lunch offerings.Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.Proficient in POS systems and Microsoft Office.Valid state food handler's certification. Physical Requirements: Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment that requires frequent bending, stooping, and reaching.Capable of lifting and carrying up to 25 pounds.
