The successful candidate will be a strategic leader with extensive experience in legal matters, including government affairs, security, and IT. Responsibilities for this role include providing legal advice to the CEO, executive team, and Board of Directors, overseeing legal strategy, and ensuring compliance with all relevant laws and regulations. The General Counsel will also manage a wide range of legal aspects, such as corporate governance, M&A, intellectual property, privacy, commercial contracts, and employment law. Additionally, the role involves leading the company's government affairs activities and representing its interests in legislative and judicial matters.
Applicants must have a JD from an accredited law school, be a member in good standing with a state bar, and have at least 12 years' experience in a law firm or in-house legal department. A US licensed attorney, preferably in California or New York, is required. The ideal candidate will have a background in content or media companies, experience managing multidisciplinary teams, and a strong entrepreneurial spirit. Familiarity with cybersecurity, excellent business judgment, and the ability to assess legal risk while thinking strategically are essential. The role demands exceptional communication, analytical, and drafting skills, as well as the ability to work in a fast-paced environment and provide practical advice to support the company's goals while managing risk.
