Job Title: Program Assistant, Center for Strengthening Violence Intervention Programs
Status: Full Time
Reports to: Director of the Center for Strengthening Violence Intervention Programs
Location: NYC, Flexible with remote options
About Kings Against Violence Initiative (KAVI): KAVI is a nonprofit, 501(c)(3) youth-serving organization with a mission to prevent and eliminate interpersonal violence from the lives of young people through advocacy, peer leadership, community mobilization, and social justice. KAVI promotes community wellness and healing by operating high-impact youth violence prevention and intervention programs in Central Brooklyn. Our programs take place in hospital-based, school, and community settings. We are a fast-paced, rapidly growing nonprofit organization. We seek to build a team of individuals willing to work hard, be creative, build on opportunities, and think "out of the box".All KAVI team members are expected to carry themselves in a professional, role-model manner.
About the NYS Center for Strengthening Community Violence Intervention Programs: Established by KAVI with funding support from the US Department of Justice and the Office of U.S. Senator Charles Schumer, the NYS Center for Strengthening Community Violence Intervention Programs (NYS CSCVIP) is a new statewide initiative to support the infrastructure and systems of small community violence intervention (CVI) and hospital-based violence intervention (HVI) programs. Small CVI and HVI programs are critical sources for effective violence intervention services. Yet, many have historically been underfunded and needed more resources to meet community needs or address emerging issues. The Center will bring together HVI and CVI programs to provide technical assistance, build capacity, particularly in fiscal and evaluation areas, offer training that improves quality of care, and connect them to other organizations and programs doing similar and supplementary work.
The Center operates in three ways: Convene CVI and HVI programs to promote partnerships, highlight best practices, elevate and disseminate outcomes, and identify needs for successfully implementing violence intervention tools. Provide technical support to violence intervention programs in areas of fiscal operations, management, evaluation and impact, organization capacity, and sustainability. Improve the quality of care provided by training providers in the areas that include trauma-informed care, restorative justice, healing circles, and anti-racist care.
Job Description: The Program Assistant will provide daily support to the SCVIP team, KAVI team and handle all clerical and administrative duties, including: Correspondence with internal team members and external partners and vendors. Assist the Director with program-related administrative activities, including scheduling events, distributing information, and tracking outcomes. Represent the Center at external and internal meetings and events.
Qualifications & Competencies: Able to engage and work with individuals and organizations of diverse backgrounds. High school diploma, GED required, college degree preferred. Strong computer skills and proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Office experience, including data entry, typing & strong phone skills. Excellent time management skills; the ability to coordinate and organize multiple activities. Flexibility and willingness to adjust and respond to changing situations. Experience in or knowledge of the Cure Violence and Crisis Management ecosystems.
Work Schedule/Location:
Hours: Monday-Friday open to negotiation
Compensation: This position is budgeted for an annual salary of $50,000.
KAVI is an equal opportunity employer and is committed to maintaining a work and learning environment free from discrimination based on race, color, religion, national origin, pregnancy, gender identity, sexual orientation, marital/civil union status, ancestry, place of birth, age, citizenship status, veteran status, political affiliation, genetic information or disability, as defined and required by state and federal laws.
