Public Programs Coordinator will oversee and implement the management of African Voices' arts programming and the publication of our literary magazine. As public programs coordinator, you will work with our dynamic team of arts professions to develop and execute our artistic programs for NYC residents' ages 8 to 80 years old. You will be responsible for contributing innovative ideas to serve Clinton Hill's diverse artistic community by overseeing the development of culturally relevant workshops, literary readings, artistic workshops and art exhibitions. This volunteer position is great for a professional in-between jobs who has a strong desire to give back. Must have at least four years experience in event planning and coordination. If you are a self-starter and enjoy managing innovative cultural arts programs, you would be a perfect fit. We welcome new ideas that are in alignment with our mission as a cultural arts institution. You must be able to stand on your own in a fast pace work environment and have a talent for problem solving. Integrity and the ability to follow through on projects is a must. Time management is essential. You will represent African Voices' programs to the public, and ensure all components of programming in collaboration with team members, are well-organized and successfully executed. The Public Programs Coordinator will report to the Executive Director. Schedule is flexible and will be worked out.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES · Develop and maintain a deep understanding of African Voices' programmatic offerings and manage day-to-day operations of our pop up gallery in Clinton Hill.
· Manage program logistics, including coordination with community partners, volunteer coordinator and team members.
· Work with our staff to create & update a Production Schedule of the organization's public and internal activities
· Plan and facilitate programs, workshops, special events, art programs, festivals, volunteer activities, etc.
Support the Marketing department by gathering content for social media posts about African Voices programs and give input on outreach materials such as brochures, website content and flyers, when needed. QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS · B.A. from an accredited college and two years' experience in administration, scheduling or the duties as described above; OR a high school diploma (or equivalent) and four years of experience in administration, scheduling or the duties as described above.
· Strong event planning, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
· Ability to monitor, analyze, consult, and report on programs.
· Advanced planning and organizational skills, as well as strong attention to detail.
· Highly motivated, able to manage and prioritize multiple tasks.
· Proficiency with computer applications, including Microsoft Office applications.
· Excellent customer service skills, follow-through and persistence when corresponding with individuals, teachers, and volunteers.
· Excellent communication, interpersonal, organization, and time-management skills.
· Motivated and punctual, able to work both independently and as part of a team.
