DescriptionGovernors State University is seeking to hire a Research Analyst (RA) as a member of the staff of the Office of Institutional Research and Effectiveness (OIRE) and is responsible for report development, analysis, and dissemination for areas across the campus and externally. Reporting to the Executive Director of Institutional Research & Effectiveness. The Research Analyst will provide leadership in the areas of student success for the OIRE in the areas of data management and research. Research responsibilities include building research questions, automating processes and reports; extracting data from various university sources; and developing, distributing, and analyzing surveys. Data management responsibilities include collecting and preparing data for analysis, assessing data quality, as well as recoding and merging data. The RA will use statistical computing software (i.e., R, Python, SPSS, etc.) to import and combine data from disparate sources in order to develop and/or automate regular reports for the campus community with an emphasis on student success. The RA must utilize discretion and independent judgement in the development and management of complex research studies and projects utilizing the databases and resources available to the office.
The scope of the RA's reporting responsibilities range across a variety of subject areas and projects covering the entire university and the decision support spectrum, including students, faculty, the research enterprise, admissions, finances, staff, and other key institutional subject areas. The RA will regularly collaborate with other university offices, thus strong communication and teamwork skills are necessary. The ability to present complex data in a succinct, meaningful way to a variety of audiences is essential.
Essential Responsibilities20% Using statistical software, extract and analyze data from university systems and external services to create reports, dashboards, and other deliverables.
20% Using statistical software, automate regular OIRE reporting to increase office efficiency and effectiveness.
15% Serve as main OIRE point of contact for developing and distributing internal and external campus surveys (i.e., NSSE, campus climate survey…) as well as ad hoc survey requests.
15% Provide data analytic support for student tracking software and represent the Institutional Research Office at committee meetings.
10% Conduct and support research studies on campus, including consulting on sponsored research, administering university research resources, and presenting research to the campus community. Provide data and technical support for internal research efforts in coordination with other staff members.
10% Coordinate with student success offices on their research efforts and represent OIRE on relevant committees and administrative groups as determined by the Executive Director and Provost.
5% Provide support to the university community by identifying and satisfying data needs that are not addressed in existing reports using the office's data request system.
5% Work with the Executive Director of Institutional Research and Effectiveness and the Programmer Analyst on the development of data standards and automation of reports.
*Hourly Rate: $28.39*
(This is a non-unionized position. Salary starts at the base and is determined based on Education and Experience exceeding the minimum qualifications).

Required and Preferred Qualifications*Minimum Qualifications:*
Twenty-four (24) semester hours of college credit for course work in computer science, mathematics, or a related field, with specialization in operations research and/or mathematical modeling, and including twelve (12) semester hours of credit in mathematical modeling and/or mathematical programming.
*Preferred Qualifications:*
• Bachelor's degree in education or professional experience in one or more of the following areas: Computer Science, IT, Business Analytics, Statistics, Social Science, Research Methodology, Business or Data Management.
• Three- five years prior experience in analysis of complex data sets, reporting and survey management.
• Technical fluency with Ellucian (Banner) software, R language, Tableau, and Qualtrics or other survey tools
• Experience with relational databases and database reporting.
• Experience with databases and data retrieval/analysis.
• Strong interpersonal skills and professional writing experience.
• Knowledge of data programing software (R, Python, Excel Visual Basic for Application).
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office or related software suites.
• Knowledge of website maintenance and development tools and practices.
• Knowledge of inferential statistical research techniques and how to apply them.
• Knowledge of Datatel/Colleague university data system.
• Knowledge of the SAP Business Objects environment for reporting; elements and identify potential cause-effect relationships.
