The Autonomous Municipality of San Juan will have AmeriCorps members provide service activities focused on disaster risk management to individuals and organizations in the following low-income and vulnerable communities: Cupey Bajo (Rivieras de Cupey), Santurce (Barrio Obrero Oeste, Machuchal (La Goyco), Playita, Res. Luis Llorens Torres, Ocean Park, Condado, Villa Palmeras), Las Monjas, Puerto Nuevo, and Oriente (San José). Additionally, they will identify volunteers to participate in the implementation of emergency measures and responses, thus supporting other program-related activities. This program will serve in the following focus area: Disaster Services.
Member Duties :
The AmeriCorps Resilient San Juan Program will intervene through the following components: (1) Risk Assessment: the identification of community needs will begin through the implementation of a census and open questions to leadership. (2) Emergency Preparedness Education: they will develop and offer educational workshops for disaster preparedness to people at risk, as well as to community organizations. (3) Development of Community Emergency Plans: The beneficiaries of these interventions will put into practice the knowledge and skills acquired by showing a greater response to disaster situations, developing planning tools (emergency plans) to adequately prepare for these events and carrying out specific disaster prevention activities. (4) Direct Services: they will provide direct disaster management services and any other task that promotes preparedness before, during and after the emergency.
