About Us:

Founded in 1968 to meet the post-secondary and continuing education needs of Cecil County residents, Cecil College has been serving the community and shaping its future for more than 50 years. The College is governed by a Board of Trustees appointed by the governor. The College's fifth president, Dr. Mary Way Bolt, reports directly to the Board of Trustees.

Cecil College is centrally located in Maryland's most northeastern county, just one half mile from Interstate 95. It is easily accessible from Philadelphia and Baltimore, as well as from Wilmington, Delaware.

With a diverse student population, Cecil College enrolls approximately 2,500 credit students and 3,400 non-credit students. Cecil offers associate degrees, certificate programs and non-credit classes. Cecil offers a variety of associate degree and certificate programs.

General Duties:

The Scenic Manager creates working drawings for the Scenic Shop to utilize in building set designs submitted for productions. They work with the Stage & Rigging Foreperson and Production Assistants to complete the building of sets for all in house production. They assist with load in and set up of all community partner events and help to maintain the cleanliness and organization of the theatre and its storage areas.

Due to the need of interaction with students, employees, and the college community this position requires in person presence.

The Scenic Manager reports to the Director of Milburn Stone Theatre
Responsibilities: Familiar with each script and all set construction plans, drawings, sketches, renderings, models and familiar with design software such as AutoCAD and Vectorworks.Formulates working drawings for the shop and generates a schedule for scenery construction.Advises contracted set designers on the technical specifications, usage of technical equipment required for productions.Reviews, approves, and assists in implementation of final designs.Acts as Set Designer for in house productions in the absence of a qualified contractor if one cannot be determined. Works with productions staff of the production in the creation of the set design.Constructs scenery for all in-house productions including, but not limited to welding, carpentry, rigging, painting, etc.Plans and leads load-ins, including the set-up of set pieces.In collaboration with the Stage & Rigging Foreperson, coordinates the strike of all scenic and fly elements of all productions and supervises a crew during strike to make certain that tools and materials are used and stored properly.In collaboration with the Stage & Rigging Forman and Lighting & Audio Technician maintains the inventory of all theatre stock including proper storage, cleaning, and replacement.Assess supply needs for the workshop and completes purchases in collaboration with the Director.Communicates regularly and clearly with the Department DirectorMaintains the safety and cleanliness of all workspaces.Enforces safe work habits in all workplaces.Drives company vehicles as well as rentals when needed.Makes repairs during the run of the show as needed.Assists with the training and instruction of Production Assistants.In collaboration with the Stage & Rigging Foreperson assists in training, assignments, and supervision of Run Crew for individual shows.Assigns appropriate tasks to the production assistants and supervises them.When requested, will attend production meetings and tech rehearsals in order to supervise and assist in the technical aspects of mounting the show.Performs other duties as assigned.Requirements: Education: High School Diploma or equivalent. Bachelor's in Technical Theatre / Theatre Production preferredExperience: 3 to 5 years of carpentry work2+ years of theatre set buildingScheduling: Position may require evening hours and weekend hours as scheduled in conjunction with Supervisor.Proficiencies: Carpentry and WoodworkingTheatre Set ConstructionAutocad or other design software (preferred)Physical Demands: Must be able to lift and move up to a maximum of 50 pounds. The physical activity of this position includes, but is not limited to: climbing, walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, pulling, lifting, grasping, twisting and sitting.Work Environment: Work environment involves everyday risks or discomforts which require normal safety precautions typical of such places as office or meeting and training rooms, e.g., use of safe work place practices with office equipment, avoidance of trips and falls, and observance of fire and building safety regulations, and traffic signals when driving.General Benefits:

This is a non-exempt (hourly), overtime eligible position; Grade 111 (pay scale:$23.27-$37.25/hr). The budgeted range for the position is $23.27-$28. Applicants initial salary placement is based on internal equity and relevant candidate experience.
