Job Description / Essential Elements:
SCHOOL FINANCE TECHNICIAN
BASIC FUNCTION:
Under the direction of an assigned administrator, perform a variety of technical accounting and financial record-keeping duties in support of assigned ASB and District accounts and functions including accounts payable and accounts receivable; prepare, process, maintain and adjust assigned funds and accounts; prepare and maintain accurate financial and statistical records and reports; coordinate between District Business Services and school to resolve budgetary and financial matters.
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Perform a variety of technical accounting and financial record-keeping duties in support of assigned ASB and District accounts and functions in accordance with District procedures; process and verify various financial forms and documents; review accounts for errors and make appropriate adjustments.
Process accounts receivable in support of District and ASB activities; collect, receive, verify and process incoming monies, receipts and deposits; issue and prepare receipts; count and record monies into proper accounts; reconcile accounts, monies and receipts; prepare and make bank deposits.
Review, prepare, process, sort and file check requests, invoices, requisitions, reimbursements and other payables as assigned; assure proper authorization by following up with staff, assuring that goods and services are received; assure proper documentation and account coding; issue and distribute payments from appropriate accounts; prepare checks for signatures.
Prepare, process and maintain assigned District and ASB funds and accounts; update accounts to reflect income and expenditures; review, adjust and assure accuracy of journal entries; balance and reconcile assigned accounts; identify errors and make corrections as needed.
Research, compile, prepare and revise accounting data and documents; compare and reconcile various fiscal statements, records, reports and documents to assure accurate fund accounting; review data for accuracy and completeness; identify and resolve discrepancies; initiate account transfers as needed.
Prepare and maintain a variety of auditable financial and statistical logs, records, reports and statements related to accounts, funds, income, expenditures, budgets, profit and loss, balances, deposits, reconciliations and assigned activities; establish and maintain filing systems.
Input a variety of financial and statistical data into an assigned computer system; maintain various automated records and files; initiate queries, develop spreadsheets and generate a variety of computerized reports, documents and statements; assure accuracy of input and output data.
Assemble, match, sort, tabulate, check, code and post a variety of financial and statistical data such as income, expenditures and transfers.
Process and respond to cash box requests as assigned; prepare, balance and reconcile cash boxes; order, inventory and sell designated goods as required; collect and account for various fees.
Communicate with District personnel, administrators, students, outside agencies and others to exchange information and resolve issues or concerns; compose, distribute and respond to a variety of correspondence.
Operate a variety of office equipment such as a calculator, copier, fax machine, typewriter, computer and assigned software.
Provide input concerning the development of assigned District and ASB budgets as requested; monitor budgets to assure expenditures comply with established limitations.
Participate in a variety of other assigned activities such as preparing ID cards, conducting inventories, duplicating and distributing materials, and assisting with periodic audits.
Participate in shipping and receiving activities as needed; verify appropriate contents and packing slips.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Any combination equivalent to: graduation from high school supplemented by college-level coursework in accounting or related field and two years general accounting experience.
