The successful candidate will serve as the dedicated privacy specialist, elevating the standards of the privacy program by providing counsel on various aspects of privacy and data security law. This role involves proactive identification, analysis, and mitigation of legal and regulatory risks throughout the product life cycle, as well as offering daily guidance to business and engineering stakeholders. The Senior Counsel will also lead compliance efforts in response to evolving privacy laws, maintain data governance policies, and manage privacy notices. Additionally, the role includes supporting incident response and regulatory inquiries and developing a deep understanding of the company's product and data flows.
Applicants must have a J.D. degree from a top accredited institution, be admitted to practice law in New York (or be in-house eligible), and have at least 5 years of combined experience in data privacy and protection. A background in negotiating data privacy-related agreements, advising on consumer-related issues, and experience with data security issues, including incident response, is required. The ideal candidate will have privacy certifications such as CIPP/US, CIPP/E, or CIPM, and a strong understanding of US and international privacy laws. The role demands a detail-oriented individual with strong problem-solving skills, the ability to handle a broad range of responsibilities, and the capacity to balance legal risk mitigation with business objectives.
