The incumbent (board certified psychiatrist) serves as the director/administrator of a psychiatric facility. This management position is responsible for the overall planning, direction, and day-to-day operation of a state-operated mental health hospital/center. Work is performed under executive direction and within general policies and procedures of the Department of Health and Human Services. Responsibilities require employee to exercise extensive independent judgment in developing and implementing approaches to clinical and administrative program administration. The employee is required to plan and direct all aspects of the operation in conformance with general guidelines, clinical standards, policies and law, within the funding authorization provided. The work requires knowledge of the policies, procedures, and regulations of various medical services, including psychiatric services, training and research programs, and supervisory techniques, personnel policies and procedures.

Four years of professional experience equivalent to a Psychiatrist in a mental health facility or clinic, including two years equivalent to a Psychiatrist Manager 19, or one year equivalent to a Psychiatrist Director 20.
