Job Description

Oversee and lead all tax policies and objectives, and monitor all reporting and planning to ensure compliance with applicable tax statues. Report directly to the Company's CFO, and operate as the leader of the Tax group.

Certain responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to, the following:
Manage third party tax consultants to meet various tax filing deadlines across all Corporate and Private Equity Fund entities, including federal/state/local returns for the Company and its various subsidiaries, the Funds/Partnerships and various Special Purpose entities and Joint Venture entities, etc. Assist in the determination of proper tax accounting treatment of the various real estate acquisitions, dispositions, recapitalizations, and other transactions executed within the portfolio. Perform detailed review of various tax workpapers and calculations prepared by third-part tax consultants. Manage the preparation and delivery of all federal and state investor K-1s or other relevant investor tax documents by the contracted deadlines (e.g., March 31st). Manage and coordinate timely delivery of tax information to corporate executives regarding estimated tax payments and corresponding distributions. Coordinate investor communication regarding tax matters, for example, composite return requests, investor tax inquiries, due diligence, etc. Manage the timely response and closure of tax notices. Assist with transaction and organizational structuring of future private equity fund products as needed. Assist with the design, implementation, and enhancement of various processes and systems to address various tax considerations. Requirements

Job Qualifications

Candidates should generally meet the following experience qualifications when applying for the role: 8+ years of experience working in a combination of public accounting and private/industry in the tax accounting capacity. Active CPA license. Undergraduate degree in Accounting, Finance or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience. General career focus within the real estate private equity industry, including extensive experience with partnership returns and K-1s, and technical tax knowledge within the partnership and real estate context (i.e., depreciation, basis establishment and allocation, carried interest, etc.). Familiarity with Joint Venture LP/LLC structures and returns. Experience with retail client base, including qualified/accredited individuals, individual retirement arrangements (IRAs), grantor trusts, etc. Experience managing third party CPA firms and outsourced resources. Exposure to Qualified Opportunity Zone and Tax Cuts and Jobs Act legislation is a plus. Familiarity with REITs is a plus. Proficiency in Yardi is a plus. Ability to work productively both independently and as a team. High level of attention to detail and accuracy, with ability to make thoughtful decisions and solve problems. Strong critical thinking, analytical skills, maturity, and sound judgment is essential. Benefits and Salary

Griffin Capital's salary ranges are determined by role, duration of direct experience, and internal and external pay equity considerations. The base salary range for this exempt, full-time position is $170,000-$220,000 + annual bonus eligibility + benefits.* At Griffin Capital, we strive to offer a comprehensive and competitive benefits package to our employees.
