**Transportation Planning and Sourcing Manager**
**Location:** Mason, MI, US
The **Transportation Planning & Sourcing Manager** will lead the Transportation Sourcing and Operations team to develop Darts carrier routing guide, negotiate and manage contracts, oversee carrier compliance and arrange transportation that meets the service and cost objectives of the company.
**Day-to-Day Role:**
* Develop carrier routing guide for all modes of transportation to meet the service and cost objectives of the company; establish sustainable relationships and conduct rate negotiations with all service providers
* Develop strategies with suppliers that will improve service, reduce transportation cost and environmental impact
* Negotiate contracts for new business and monitor contract compliance for existing business
* Manage a team of transportation analysts, planners and specialists that coordinate transportation globally
* Develop and publish key metrics and KPIs on a monthly and YTD bases
* Develop initiatives to drive improvement in Corporate Fleet performance and asset utilization
* Monitor carrier performance against set goals, compliance and overall expectations through monthly and quarterly report cards
* Conduct key supplier business reviews on a quarterly basis to review key metrics and discuss opportunities to improve the business process
* Meet with internal and external customers regularly to proactively prepare for new or changed business requirements and ensure current suppliers are meeting company requirements
* Analyze industry trends to proactively identify capacity issues to minimize risk, protect continuity of supply, and capitalize on emerging opportunities
* Analyze current and new rates for changes to spend and market competitiveness
* Oversees freight bill auditing, focused on preventing excess charges
* Address ad hoc requests for carrier rate changes and new carriers/routes
* Oversee freight coordination by servicing areas of need and managing service levels
* Responsible for Dart Fleet capacity, usage and overall operations, policies and compliance to Department of Transportation regulations
* Maintain high level of market awareness in both national and local markets. Stay abreast of changes in these markets that may impact carrier rates, routes, etc.
* Develop annual freight budget and expenditure forecasts
* Implement transportation changes for distribution strategy realignments as well as plant and distribution center openings, closing and moves
* Provide internal customers with actual freight expenses or estimated costs for new lanes as requested
* Plan, direct, supervise, and coordinate work activities of staff
* Responsible for employee development, discipline, performance appraisals, and administration of policies
* Make recommendations regarding staffing decisions
**Core Skills and Qualifications:**
**The ideal candidate must possess all of the following:**
* Bachelors degree required; an emphasis in Logistics, Procurement, or a related business field is preferred
* Five (5) years of experience in contract negotiations; 10 years is preferred
* Two (2) years of supervisory experience
* Two (2) years of Transportation Management Software experience
* SAP software experience
* Experience using Microsoft Office, including the ability to create professional reports, documents, presentations and spreadsheets in MS Word, MS Excel, and MS PowerPoint
* Knowledge of different state, local and federal highway authority requirements and the ability to qualify carriers
* Experience with intermodal market
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills necessary in order to persuade and influence decision making of individuals, groups, or work teams, and to explain complex issues
* Ability to maintain composure and adapt in a dynamic, fast-paced, customer-focused work environment characterized by rapid change, minimal lead times, and multiple competing priorities
* Ability to give full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, and asking questions as appropriate
* Organizational skills including the ability to prioritize workload to meet deadlines
* Ability to absorb information quickly and to apply that knowledge according to the situation
* Ability to lead/supervise a team of analysts, planners, and schedulers
* Ability to travel up to 25% domestically and internationally
* Ability to obtain and maintain a valid drivers license and passport
* Requires a favorable motor vehicle report upon hire
