Overview
The Vice President, Product and Software Engineering is accountable for providing the thought leadership and guidance of teams in the development and maintenance of leading healthcare insurance software products for NASCO. The VP Engineering will foster a culture of innovation and excellence in engineering, including agile practices, DevSecOps and continuous customer feedback loops. The VP Engineering will partner with Product Management and Operational teams in the development and launch of modern health insurance processing products for BCBS health plans. As a key member of the leadership team, you will lead our engineering department in the establishment of world class development practices and the continuous modernization of our leading health payer solutions. In addition, this position will guide the inclusion of security and artificial intelligence capabilities within our solutions that aligns with the company's Responsible, Value driven AI framework. Implement and manage software development status reporting, metrics, and benchmarks.
Responsibilities
Leads the transformation of existing software development teams through the establishment of a world class engineering competency, and enhancing the developer experience and productivity
Partners with the Product Management organization through collaboration and strong relationships to execute the roadmaps and develop compelling solutions for our customers
Oversees the software engineering process, incorporating leading design approaches, agile methods and DevSecOps to ensure high quality, secure and reliable products
Partners with Security, Infrastructure and Operations leadership and teams on platform capabilities and cloud management, including DevSecOps and environment operations
Drives innovation in our products through leveraging the appropriate and architecturally aligned capabilities of Data and AI technologies, microservices and cloud native solutions
Communicates to manager on status of projects and initiatives
Attracts, hires and retains talent to both maintain our product portfolio and drive innovation into new product offerings
Fosters a culture of continuous improvement, mentorship, and professional growth within the engineering team
Oversees management of relationships with consultants, vendors, and contractors and supports negotiation of statements of work and business terms with suppliers
Qualifications
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Understanding of relevant tools and platforms (e.g. cloud platforms, web technologies, client-server technologies, continuous integration and deployment), with an eagerness to learn about new and unfamiliar technologies
Demonstrated success in leading and motivating high-performing engineering teams
Strategic mindset with the ability to align technology initiatives with business strategy
Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders
Demonstrated ability to deal with ambiguity and progress significant organization change initiatives
Demonstrates that teamwork and collaboration, combined with effective and strong leadership, provide the most effective means to achieve success
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Solid knowledge of healthcare industry regulations and health insurance plans
Experience:
3 years' in executive leadership with proven success in delivery and organizational transformation
8 years' leading others, with proven success in senior level engineering management/leadership roles, preferably within the health technology sector
Strong background in product development, with expertise in healthcare, finance or insurance industries
5 years' experience in cloud technology, with demonstrated skills in leading cloud transformation initiatives
Strong background within engineering and/or product
Required Training, Certification and Education:
Bachelor's degree in business, computer science, engineering, or a related field or equivalent work experience
Working Conditions:
Ability to travel, up to 30% of time
Must be able to sit and use equipment at workstation for up to 8 hours daily
